Yesterday a man named Chad Gauthier who refers to himself as “Good Boy” announced his run for Texas Governor today in the Elections Committee:

It’s not exactly unusual for a Democrat to identify as something they aren’t, those categories often include men identifying as women, non-existent genders, or animals. But rarely do you see Democrats identifying as having a job they no longer have.

Zack Dunn, also known as Zachary Dunn, is the Democrat nominee running for House District 121, located in Bexar County. Dunn used to be a Misdemeanor Prosecutor in the Family Violence Division of the Bexar County DA’s office before resigning in April of this year:

His resignation letter reads:

He loved the job so much he kept it. On social media.

Despite resigning in April of this year (his final day of employment was May 1st), he still promotes that he is an active “SVU prosecutor.”

On X he said he’s proud to be an SVU prosecutor:

On Saturday, Dunn’s Linkedin said he was still presently employed as a prosecutor:

“I love being a prosecutor” he said at the 2026 Texas Democratic Convention in June. More than two months after resigning.

His Instagram profile also states he’s an “SVU prosecutor.” It’s important to note that the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office does not use the term “SVU” on any of its official pages or division lists. It officially refers to its specialized unit as the Family Violence Division. In Bexar County, the actual Special Victims Units belong to the Sheriff’s Office and SAPD. The police. The people who arrest suspects so prosecutors (current ones) can prosecute them. Why Dunn calls it the SVU is anyone’s guess. Maybe it just sounds cooler.

His campaign website managed the same trick. Just two days ago, his official bio read “He currently serves as a Special Victims Unit prosecutor.”

Sometime after Current Revolt reached out for comment, his website was updated to say “He most recently served.”

The surviving sentence still says his “daily work focus” is protecting victims, because when you convert a bio from present tense to past tense in a hurry, sometimes a clause gets left behind. The Wayback Machine keeps receipts.

On the “Mission: Texas Podcast” (Episode 39, July 2, recorded around convention time), Dunn mentions that he is a “Special Victims Unit prosecutor”.

In the same episode, Dunn admits to lying to voters at their own door saying:

“I spend almost 90% of my time at the doors talking about the work that I do at the Bexar County DA’s office.”

The work that “he does.” At the office he left in May.

Current Revolt reached out to Zack Dunn to inquire why he is identifying as a currently employed prosecutor for the Bexar County DA. Dunn provided the following:

After reaching out to Dunn regarding his past employment, Dunn’s Linkedin was updated to show that he was not presently employed at the Bexar County DA Office:

Current Revolt also ran the voter registration for Dunn, which shows his registration assigned to his parents’ home address.

Current Revolt reached out to Dunn regarding the address issue to inquire if he was still living at home with his parents. Dunn provided the following response:

Texas Election Code requires that a voter’s registration be assigned to where they reside, not simply where they receive mail. The code allows a mailing address only when the residence itself has no address, and a 2021 law, SB 1111, says a voter may not claim a previous residence unless he still lives there and intends to stay.

We’ll keep monitoring Dunn’s bios for further developments.

Texas Bureaucrats Botched SNAP So Badly It'll Cost You $2.1 Billion

State officials showed up to a Senate Finance Committee hearing Tuesday and calmly explained that Texas’ inability to fill out a form correctly is about to cost you the price of a pro football stadium.

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing Tuesday, Texas Health and Human Services Commission officials told lawmakers the state could owe between $1.7 billion and $2.1 billion during the 2028-29 budget cycle

Between. They’re not even sure how big the hole is yet, and this is from the state that never shuts up about fiscal responsibility.

Watch the number move. In April, HHSC told the Legislature the damage was $826 million: a $709 million federal penalty unless Texas gets its error rate under 6 percent by October 2027, plus $117 million a year in new administrative costs. In June, USDA published fresh error rates. By Tuesday, the estimate for one budget cycle was $2.1 billion. Every time this agency testifies, the invoice gets bigger.
The mechanism:

While SNAP benefits have historically been fully funded by the federal government, the law requires states to begin paying a share of benefit costs based on their payment error rates and increases states’ share of administrative expenses.

So the feds finally said: you run the program, you eat your own mistakes. Under the new rules, a state that keeps its error rate under 6 percent pays zero dollars toward benefits. Texas’ rate is nearly 9.

The national average is 10.62 percent, but the free tier starts at 6.

HHSC Swears the Screwups Aren’t “Fraud”

Before you get any ideas, the agency would like you to know that a multi-billion-dollar error rate is definitely not what it sounds like.

HHSC Commissioner Stephanie Muth told lawmakers the agency is working to lower Texas' payment error rate but stressed the figure should not be confused with fraud.

Not fraud. Just incompetence, at scale, on your dime.

It’s also a rerun. In April, Muth told the same building that Texas “has been a national leader in the proactive steps that we’ve taken.” That was the $826 million hearing. The national leadership has since grown to $2.1 billion.

Same script we heard on broadband, on DEI contracting, on the EBTpocalypse. The bureaucracy fumbles, the taxpayer covers the fumble, and a commissioner assures the committee it’s all under control.

It is not under control. It is $2.1 billion!

VIDEO: City Councilwoman Asks Why Big Tex Can’t Have More Melatonin

A recently surfaced video of former Dallas City Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold asking why Big Tex can’t have more melatonin has gone viral.

The video is a clip of a meeting held in 2025.

Apparently we missed it since it apparently went viral a whole five days ago. But here’s the clip if you haven’t already seen it:

She probably meant melanin but…you know.

People online are defending the councilwoman because the clip is a year old, but the video shows the type of representation the City of Dallas has when making decisions that affect millions.

In a story covered last week, County Judge Johnson doxxed the absolute heck out of Nino America, publishing his SSN, driver's license number, date of birth, and address. Johnson also labeled Nino America as a "convicted felon."

Nino is represented by Dhillon Law Group, including former FEC Commissioner Trey Trainor.

For a guy the county judge treated like a nobody, Nino America sure lawyers up like a somebody.

In a press release from Dhillon Law Group, the firm alleges that Judge Johnson used his official position to access confidential government records to disclose a citizen’s private information.

“This lawsuit is about far more than politics or a disagreement between two individuals. At its core, it asks whether a government official can use the authority and access of public office to retaliate against a citizen for engaging in constitutionally protected speech.”

“A Social Security number cannot simply be ‘taken back’ once it has been exposed to the internet. The harm can last a lifetime. … [N]o public official is above the law, and when government power is allegedly used to punish a citizen for exercising constitutional rights, the courts remain the place where accountability is demanded and the rule of law is preserved.”

Faced with the allegations and calls for his resignation, County Judge Terry Johnson has refused to resign.

The county’s proposed FY2026 budget helps explain the attachment. It has Johnson down for $130,600 in base pay, a $25,199.98 state supplement, travel money, and a $1,919.84 cell phone allowance, about $166,320 all in. It even pencils in a raise.

And yes, the cell phone. Midland taxpayers fund Judge Johnson’s Facebook machine.

You’d stay too.

Additionally, Midland resident and ISD Trustee Brandon Hodges has retained a lawyer to consider state-level proceedings against Johnson.

The bad news is the reason.

That's from the Islamic Association of Collin County's open house on July 18, an event called "Understanding Islam & Shariah: Myths vs Facts," which drew about a hundred Texans with the promise of dialogue, understanding, and a free lunch.

About that lunch:

Incredible. A hundred Texans walked in for the free food and walked out as practitioners of Islamic law. No paperwork, no conversion, no baptism. The lunch was load-bearing. Somewhere in Plano right now there is a man who has no idea he ate three Sharias and took a fourth one home in a to-go box.

The event was hosted by WhyIslam Dallas, GainPeace, and ICNA Dallas, and per the Dallas Express the featured speaker was Dr. Sabeel Ahmed, director of GainPeace. The pitch was pure infomercial. Sharia is "a beautiful guidance from Allah." It strengthens families. It fights immorality. It feeds the hungry. It's basically the Constitution, but with better catering:

The Constitution definitely says none of that.

Meanwhile, there was one man at the event who actually lived under Sharia. Edwin Isagholi, an Iranian-born Christian, stood outside on the sidewalk warning people what this stuff looks like when it graduates from catering to governing.

Anyway. If you're feeling nervous right now, don't be. You live in Texas, the state that bans Sharia recreationally. Nobody bans Sharia like Texas. We've done it twice, and we're stretching for a third.

Ban number one came in 2017, when Governor Abbott signed HB 45 and headlines nationwide announced Texas had outlawed Sharia law. Fun fact about the famous Texas Sharia ban: the word Sharia is not in it. Neither is Islam. It's a rule that Texas judges can't apply foreign law in divorce and custody cases. That's it. That's the ban. It banned Sharia the way your gym membership bans body fat: technically related to the subject, but come on.

Ban number two came last September, after the EPIC City fight in Collin County, when Abbott held a signing ceremony in Fairview for HB 4211 and declared the end of "Sharia compounds" in Texas:

No neighborhood in Texas is governed by Sharia law,” Abbott said. “Texas law and Texas courts govern those businesses and those neighborhoods.” -Greg Abbott

The bill has no idea what he’s talking about. HB 4211 mentions no religion at all. It’s a fair housing amendment: religious organizations that own more than 25 acres can’t put faith-based resale restrictions on home lots. Keep your caliphate under 25 acres and you’re zoned residential.

But the TV said BANNING SHARIA LAW, and a million Texans went to bed being defended by an HOA regulation.

So let’s be precise about what the goofy Republican position actually is, because it has been implied for a decade and it deserves to be said out loud.

The Muslims can stay. Everyone’s clear on that. Legal residents, citizens, welcome to Texas, land of religious liberty. They just can’t be Muslim. No Sharia here. And Sharia, according to the man at the Plano open house, is the lunch. The charity. The prayers. The family rules. The religion, in other words. The practicing of it.

That’s the platform. Keep the Muslims, ban the Islam.

Think about how that works for five seconds, which is four seconds longer than anyone in Austin has. The scary parts of Sharia are already illegal in Texas. Stoning people is murder. Amputating hands is aggravated assault. Marrying children is banned. Slavery has been out for a minute. Killing someone for leaving a religion is killing someone. Every punishment on that list is already a felony in Texas, for everybody, no special ban required.

And the other parts of Sharia? Yeah, the First Amendment does not come with an asterisk. No legislature in America can ban religion, and every lawyer in Austin knows it. Most homeless people as well.

Which means a “Sharia ban” can only ever be one of two things: crimes that are already crimes, or a scam. There is no third thing. That’s why Texas has passed two Sharia bans and the word Sharia appears in neither. It’s not sloppy drafting. It’s the only way one can be written.

The customers were promised the Islamization of Texas would be stopped. The customers are starting to check the receipt.

Rep. Jolanda Jones Says James Talarico Must Pay for the Black vote

Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico is facing harsh criticism by ‘leaders’ in the black community after he defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic Primary back in March.

The black community hasn’t forgotten, or forgiven, Talarico for the sin of defeating their candidate. Recently, at a Talarico rally in Houston, a black woman claiming to represent the her community really put Talarico through the wringer:

An angry woman screamed at Talarico that he would “suffer the consequences” for not engaging the black community.

Editor’s note: Current Revolt reached out to the hostile woman in the video. She claimed we would use “ragebait language” calling her “hostile and angry” and told us not to message her again. We have obliged.

Talarico’s own Texas House colleague, Jolanda Jones, even said multiple times on video that Talarico would lose his election if he failed to secure the black vote.

Jones was voted off the island on Survivor back in 2005 and has been forming alliances ever since.

What would Talarico need to do to get the black vote?

In a recorded interview with Jones, Talarico needs to give black people money in order to win.

In case you haven’t heard, many Texas Republicans are backstabbing their voters by trying to give a form of amnesty to millions of illegals, especially those involved in agriculture. Despite the fact that conservatives generally dislike this idea, GOP apparatchiks care more about ensuring donors get cheap slave-labor. Fun fact: this bill would’ve guaranteed amnesty to Mollie Tibbett’s killer, as he worked at a farm not using E-verify.

The latest so-called Texan to back amnesty is Minnesotan pillow salesman Mike Lindell. Despite running for Minnesota governor, he’s registered to vote in Angelina County, TX, and has never voted in a GOP Primary. His motive for this is unknown.

Despite Lindell’s conservative persona, he’s openly backed a proposal to give amnesty to illegals. His proposal is to provide a “temporary” amnesty, but as we all know, these things are never short-term.

The fact any Republican voters still support him after this shows how many have short memories. In 1986, Reagan passed a mass-amnesty of his own, backstabbing the voters giving him a landslide re-election victory, which later flipped California blue. In fact, Los Angeles County used to be a swing county until Reagan gave free citizenship to millions of border hordes.

Nevermind his middle finger to conservative voters, many in party leadership still worship Reagan as a political demigod. With a legacy of electoral coprophilia, it’s no wonder so many young Rightists are “Nixon-maxxing” instead.

To worsen matters, the original 1986 amnesty was infested with fraudsters, with document forgery rampant. Considering many Third Worlders’ culture of skulduggery, any and all amnesty proposals would open the floodgates for a “Camp of the Saints” variety invasion.

Needless to say, both Texas and Minnesota (who knows which Lindell considers his residence) would be turned dark blue if “MS-13 Mike’s” idea achieves praxis. A Lindell win in Minnesota’s GOP Primary would inevitably result in a Democrat victory.

Granted, those still defending Lindell and other RINOs will claim that America will somehow magically dissolve if we refuse opening the gates to invaders. As we were reminded on July 4th, our country has lasted more than 250 years, a majority of which was without illegal aliens. We’ll do just fine without them.

Rep. Monica De La Cruz, Pete Sessions, and Michael McCaul have all signed on as cosponsors to agricultural bill that would allow illegal aliens who worked in U.S. agriculture to receive waivers for immigration violations, such as overstaying their visas or entering the US illegally.

The bill, as written, would allow these illegal aliens to obtain H2-A temporary agricultural work status preventing their deportation.

It also forces the employer to provide housing:

Buried in the fine print is the part Big Ag actually paid for: a cap on farm wages.

The bill caps the federal wage floor for these workers, known as the “adverse effect wage rate,” so it can never rise more than 3.25 percent in a year. It can, however, be CUT by up to 1.5 percent a year. Straight from Section 218 of the bill:

“The adverse effect wage rate calculated under this paragraph may not (i) be more than 1.5 percent lower than the wage in effect for the immediately preceding calendar year; and (ii) be more than 3.25 percent higher than the wage in effect for the preceding calendar year.”

Another provision freezes a worker’s pay for the length of his contract even if the wage rate rises after he’s hired.

So the full offer is: amnesty for the illegal workers, legal immunity for the companies that hired them, and a wage cap making sure these jobs never pay enough to attract Americans.

The three Texas Republicans signed on to this bill represent the following areas of Texas:

• Rep. Monica De La Cruz - TX15 Rio Grande Valley and Hidalgo County.

• Rep. Pete Sessions - TX17 Central and East Texas which includes Waco, Round Rock, Huntsville, Nacogdoches, Lufkin.

• Rep. Michael McCaul - TX10 Central Texas including part of Austin, College Station, and suburbs outside Houston.

It should be noted that this is considered a bi-partisan bill that both Republicans and Democrats are supporting.

Critics of this bill say this rewards illegal aliens coming into our country illegally. This also rewards the agriculture companies with a cheap slave-labor class while punishing American workers by suppressing wage growth due to supply and demand.

Here’s a crazy idea, maybe instead of giving amnesty to illegal aliens for cheap slave labor you can just pay Americans more to work those jobs.

Kristian Carranza, who is running for HD118, an open seat in Bexar County (San Antonio area), is in one of the more competitive races this midterm election cycle.

The seat is open because Republican John Lujan is leaving it behind to run for Congress.

Carranza ran for the seat in 2024 against Lujan and lost by less than 4 points.

Her first run against Lujan was juiced with $1.2 million from a PAC aligned with David Hogg. Carranza is now running again with much more support. Her latest filing shows $223k on hand for her race. She'll face Republican Jorge Borrego in November.

According to campaign finance reports, that money also came in handy to cover a quick pedicure back in March that was described as “Event Prep.”

The payee is E-Nails, with an address definitely matching a nail salon:

Texas Ethics Commission rules (Election Code Sec. 253.035) prohibit using political contributions for personal use. Getting a pedicure would likely fall into the “personal use” category.

Another interesting expenditure comes in the form of $18,750 to a “James Sonneman,” categorized as payroll.

James Sonneman also happens to be Carranza's fiancé.

Texas House Democratic candidate Bobby Pulido asked women on social media to send him explicit pictures and riffed about pornography, a Post review has found.

Pulido, 55, a Latin Grammy winner who once portrayed a public masturbator in a raunchy music video, is running to take down Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) in the Lone Star State’s 15th Congressional District.

“I want a photo of your tit signed by @grupo_pesado,” Pulido wrote in response to a since-deleted post on Twitter (now X) in 2014, referencing a Mexico-based band with whom he has collaborated in the past.

However, these were not at all isolated occurrences. The singer turned congressional candidate also shared links to porn sites as well, which were deleted once people started asking questions about them.

Pulido also mused that “It’s impossible to have Twitter and not watch porn,” and informed his followers that “there’s a website called youporn [sic] and that it’s cool.”

The Tejano music star also shared a link to the porn site XVideos, riffing on “homemade porn while sleep-deprived.”

Those posts were scrubbed by his team after his campaign was asked about them. But The Post found another tweet about explicit content that is still up.

“We all have that friend who’s always sending porn via WhatsApp. Thanks, but an occasional photo or video is enough for me,” Pulido tweeted on July 4, 2018, per a translation.

Being pattern noticers, we notice Pulido has a history of associating with creepy sexual activities. Months ago, Pulido denied knowing anything about bandmate Frankie Caballero Sr’s multiple child sex abuse arrests, as well as the latter’s son Frankie Caballero Jr. With how close they were to Pulido, many people are thinking his claims of knowing nothing are lies (or if there’s more being hidden.) Despite these pedophile ties, Pulido opened the Texas Democratic Convention with his concert.

With these revelations, who knows if more dirt will come out, or if any supporters will pull out. So far, Rep. De La Cruz has gained more ground according to Kalshi.

But by Sunday the fundraiser had been shut down, first noticed by X user KarnifexMaximus:

The FDA announced that Taylor Farms, the lettuce supplier for Taco Bell, was not the source of the explosive diarrhea parasite meaning everyone is safe to eat Taco Bell again.

New York Post:

The FDA is walking back its initial claims that a Taco Bell lettuce supplier is responsible for sickening hundreds of Americans with explosive diarrhea, saying the original test results were a “false positive.”

The stunning reversal comes after the agency double-checked a lettuce sample, which found that the leafy green supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico did not have traces of Cyclospora – the parasite that causes the crappy condition.

Christino Rodriquez, known online as “Nino America,” had recently published federal court records involving two lawsuits against Midland County: one still pending, and one that ended in a $150,000 settlement with a former county employee who alleged retaliation under Johnson’s supervision. Less than 24 hours later, Judge Johnson posted an old warrant containing Nino’s full name, social security number, date of birth, and driver’s license number on his personal Facebook page with the caption “Convicted felon trying to be a player”:

In the screenshot reviewed by Current Revolt, someone took the time to black out Nino's address and phone number, then posted his SSN and driver's license number anyway. Essentially an identity theft starter kit.

The warrant, according to Nino, stems from an incident in 2015 where he was arrested but the charges, he tells CR, were later dismissed. That creates a scandal within a scandal: Nino was never convicted in that case. A judge should know the difference between an arrest and a conviction, nevertheless this one branded a citizen a "convicted felon.”

It also raises the question Johnson should have to answer on the record: where does one get an unredacted warrant? Clerks typically redact Social Security numbers from copies they release to the public. Somebody with access pulled this document, and it surfaced on the personal Facebook page of the county's top executive in the middle of his personal feud. Big yikes.

Other’s on Johnson’s Facebook even warned Johnson that posting Nino’s full information was an issue:

Those commenters saw the post live before it was taken down. These are what some people call “witnesses,” if anyone with a badge ever gets curious.

Midland ISD Board member Brandon Hodges put out a statement on Facebook drawing attention to the issue and calling for Johnson to resign immediately:

Given the potential malicious intent and private information that was published, several Texas laws may have been broken including:

• Texas Penal Code §39.03 (Official Oppression): written for exactly this scenario, a public servant who misuses the power or information of his office against someone. Class A misdemeanor.

• Texas Penal Code §32.51 (Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information): “identifying information” explicitly includes Social Security number, date of birth, and driver’s license number. Obtaining, possessing, or transferring it without consent with intent to harm is a felony, scaled by the number of items. (Johnson posted at least three lol.)

Johnson would later delete the Facebook post with Nino’s information. The warrant, the caption, and the redactions are preserved in screenshots. Hopefully the scammers don’t get Nino’s info.

Current Revolt reached out to Judge Terry Johnson for comment, but no reply was received in time for publishing.

Congressman Wesley Hunt Poses With Alleged Human Traffickers

In an article posted by DailyMail, Congressman Wesley Hunt posed for a photo with Andrew and Tristan Tate:

For those unaware, Andrew and Tristan Tate face multiple allegations of sex trafficking and related offenses in Romania and the United Kingdom.

In Romania, prosecutors accuse the Tate brothers of attempting to recruit and exploit victims, including minors, into producing pornography and performing webcam sex work for financial gain.

In the UK, the Tate brothers face a combined 21 charges,including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking related to offenses alleged between 2012 and 2016.

Both brothers have denied all allegations.

, a political commentator and author, documented a previous run-in with Andrew Tate where she alleges he sexually assaulted her including choking and strangulating her in a hotel room in 2018. According to the New York Times, Southern was able to provide a hospital report regarding the assault.

Upon news of the Texas congressman taking a photo with the Tate brothers, Southern provided the following statement to Current Revolt:

The Compounding Scandals of Taylor, Texas

A 30-year resident of Taylor, Texas asked his fellow citizens to hum and hold it until his phone’s decibel meter hit 70, so that his public comments could be delivered with the same aura that accompanies a data center.

Many people are saying the mayor of Taylor just sold his house. For the record: listed at $459,000, and under contract before the council meeting you’re about to read about. The one he didn’t attend. He was out of the country.

The data center saga has run through two mayors, and the other one is also interesting. Two months into his term, the previous mayor took a day job as a salesman for a company that sells data center cooling equipment. For the record again: no evidence his company ever sold anything to this project. Still, couldn’t be more sus.

The Gift

1999: a Taylor farmer deeds 87 acres to a parks foundation for $10. The deed says “to be held in trust for future use as parkland.” His reason, as he told a neighbor: “these kids need somewhere to play.”

Then he dies. The land hops through two foundations to the city, and the parkland language magically falls off the paperwork. 2008: the city sells it to its own economic development corporation for $15,000. April 2025: the EDC sells it to a data center developer for $10 million.

The park will be a 135,000-square-foot AI data center.

The neighbors sued and lost. Not because a judge said the deed didn’t mean park. Because the court said the neighbors weren’t allowed to ask. That question is on appeal now.

Petition Night

The town did the “democracy” thing. 130 days of door-knocking. 1,400 verified signatures, in a town of fifteen thousand. More people signed that petition than voted in the last mayoral election. The city certified the signatures, then went quiet for weeks.

July 9. The chamber overflows. Residents line up at the microphone to speak. And fifteen minutes into the meeting, the city posts on Facebook that the petition is dead, and that no action will be taken. Texas law, the statement says, doesn’t allow zoning by popular vote. The crowd finds out from their phones, mid-meeting. The room gasps.

The mayor wasn’t there to hear it. He was out of the country on vacation. The city manager later apologized for the timing of the post.

As a planning commissioner, Jim Buzan made the motion that approved this data center. It passed 6 to 0. The old mayor, Dwayne Ariola, is his lifelong friend. That’s the one with the datacenter cooling-equipment day job. Ariola appointed Buzan to the committee rewriting the city charter while Buzan was already running for mayor.

The local paper’s headline: “Ethics concerns cited.” Nothing happened.

May 2: Buzan wins with 869 votes. May 4: that committee votes 5 to 4 against letting citizens recall a mayor. He voted no. So there is no recall, and Taylor has no ethics rules for removing an official who misbehaves. The only tool left is the next election, in 2029. And his house went under contract before petition night.

Things many people are saying:

“You can’t walk to a grocery store, but you can walk to a data center.”

“I have to wonder when was the meeting to deliberate, discuss and craft this Facebook post?”

And the coldest take of all: maybe Taylor is getting exactly what it ordered. This wouldn’t be the town’s first, second, or third rodeo.

The resident’s appeal sits at the Fifteenth Court of Appeals. Good luck with that y’all.

Did Texas Tech Violate Abbott’s H-1B Freeze?

Serious questions are being raised about H-1B filings for random jobs at Texas Tech.

That’s a Labor Condition Application notice, the first step toward filing an H-1B visa. It was posted at Texas Tech from June 22 to July 6. One “Web Developer, Marketing & Communications.” A three-year gig for one super, highly-specialized tech guru making $60,000. The role had to be opened to the global workforce to find someone with the right set of skills for such deep complexity.

This role reports to Texas Tech’s Marketing & Communications department. That department has about seventy employees. It has a Web team, a Digital Communications team, a Design team, a Storytelling team, and three separate enrollment marketing teams (their staff page is live here, archived here in case it gets camera-shy). Somewhere in that giant org chart is one job so special it needed a federal visa to fill: making web pages for a marketing department. (Show us something this web developer does that an AI can’t one-shot in an hour.) Millions of American graduates can do this work. Texas Tech graduates a fresh batch of them every few months.

You may be confused at this point, because you remember Governor Greg Abbott did something about all the H-1Bs taking random roles for random reasons, living in all the houses Americans are trying to buy, etc.

Yes, wise patriot with an excellent memory, back in January, Governor Abbott ordered every state agency and public university to freeze new H-1B petitions until May 2027. Not just freeze them, but “immediately suspend” any preparation of them. Want an exception? You need written approval from the Texas Workforce Commission. “State government must lead by example,” said the Governor.

So this notice at Texas Tech went up five months into the freeze, before the application was even filed with the feds (the case number field is blank). Naturally, we have some very sophisticated questions. Did Texas Tech just prep a brand new H-1B petition in defiance of the Governor? Or is there a piece of paper in Austin certifying that a marketing web developer is talent so rare, so essential, that the Governor’s freeze had to bend for it? A special exception perhaps? And if that paper exists, how many more like it has TWC handed out since January?

So we filed an open records request with TWC for every freeze exception requested and granted by any state agency or university since January 27, plus the list of existing H-1B workers Texas Tech was required to turn in. That will be interesting to read.

Ten business days, gentlemen.

Now let us tell you what those documents will most likely show.

Nothing.

No violation. No exception. Nothing to except, because nothing was frozen. Look at the notice again. It lists two worksites: the Lubbock campus, and a rental house on 67th Street. They would not put a specific three-bedroom rental on the paperwork for some hypothetical future hire from overseas. Whoever this visa is for is already here and already on the payroll. Which means this is almost certainly a routine extension. And guess what: extensions were never frozen. Every H-1B worker already inside Texas government just rolls forward, three years at a time, right through the “freeze.”

In other words, the viral notice most likely proves another scam, and the scam is the freeze itself. We told you in April that this ban targeted theoretical H-1B workers, positions and jobs that do not exist, but that could theoretically exist in the future. The actual ones kept badging in Monday morning. Nothing happened.

I had a close personal friend call me when the Abbott announcement happened. He a nervous hope in his voice. “Tommy” he said. “Is it true that Abbott is getting rid of the H-1Bs? Please tell me it’s true. Someone’s gotta do something about this. It’s out of control.”

It was cute. He thought something was going to happen.

None of this is new for Texas. We’ve previously covered how the Texas Enterprise Fund handed millions in “job creation” money to Infosys and Cognizant while their Texas offices filed thousands of H-1B applications. Infosys, by the way, fresh off a record $34 million ICE settlement for systemic visa fraud.

Abbott's “ban” announcement got millions of views. The corrections telling the real story got far less.

Yes, that’s right. State governments can still use H-1B workers as long as there is an additional layer of middlemen. It’s both conservative (most ever) and fiscally responsible.

Could TWC’s records surprise us? Sure. A defiant university or a stack of rubber-stamped exceptions would be a different article, and a fun one. (Lubbock readers: the visa paperwork sits in a public access file at Texas Tech that federal law says any random member of the public can walk in and look at. Just saying.)

But if the freeze actually worked the way the press release implied, that bulletin board would be empty.

We'll continue monitoring this situation. Harder than usual, even.

Young Republicans Claim Victory in Name Drama

Recently, the Young Republicans of Texas (YRT), the official youth arm of the Texas GOP, won their legal battle against the Texas Young Republicans Federation (TYRF). Needless to say, the former was quite elated with their victory.

The lawsuit started because TYRF didn’t like that YRT had a similar-ish name. We covered the early lawsuit drama here:

While there’ll probably still be bad blood in some form (though we hope for unity before November), it’s nice to see the drama ended. Anyway, Current Revolt could still start its own Young Republicans group and make it a threesome. There'll probably be more ladies at ours than either group.
