ABBOTT: “BORDER REGION WILL BE LIT…”
Abbott announced the following increased border security measures at a press conference on Wednesday.
Enhanced vehicle searches at all ports of entry
Sending busses of illegal invaders to Washington DC
Boat Blockades
Razor wire
Container blockades at low water crossings
Get National Guard ready for anticipated surge of invasion (isn’t this all the time?)
Soldiers with riot gear
Border region lit with lights
Abbott - Today is Step 1, Step 2 “Coming Next Week.”
The Abbott administration stated the moves were in response to the Biden administration’s April 1 announcement that, effective May 23, it will end a Trump-era expulsion policy from 2020 known as Title 42.
For those unaware, Title 42 prevents many asylum seekers from entering the US since 2020.
Title 42 allowed America, for a brief period of time, to have a national border. The rationale was that a virus called covid-19 existed and therefore the US could deny asylum claims.
The press conference came amidst rumors of possible bold action by Abbott on the border invasion. However, a reporter asked Abbott during Q&A about these rumors on actions related to an “invasion,” to which Abbott appeared to deny.
Rumors were that Abbott’s actions were inspired by a plan from the Center for Renewing America whereby a series of actions are proposed for State governments.
Abbott’s actions Wednesday do not reflect much of that plan.
In the plan, State Governors like Abbott are called to do the following:
Activate State Guard units and send all available forces to the southern border
Form a task force for the creation of an interstate compact on securing the border
Call for an immediate special legislative session
Furthermore, the CFRN plan calls for Governors to:
Deputize citizens to work alongside state and local law enforcement along the border to make trespassing arrests.
Use existing legal authority to impose prohibitions on the utilization of state assets to aid the federal government in facilitating the invasion (as they have been)
Abbott’s announcement called for using state-owned busses (like unused school busses) to transport illegals, which was in the CFRA plan. The hilarious part about busing them to DC seemed to be a wacky twist.
The proposal on prohibitions for transport was something Abbott tried, with a version of this policy in July 2021. It was blocked by a judge after just a few days.
Citizens arresting illegals would be a whole new thing, however.
Let’s hope we see it.
A logistical nightmare and unsustainable. Pure political theater.
Even at 5000 illegals a day {{some say 18000/day after the Biden regime kills Title 42}} what is that? 100 buses per day? With diesel over $4/gal? At 6 mpg? 1800 miles!?
Booking a deep discount charter service is likely to cost a million taxpayer bucks each day. Not including culturally sensitive sack lunches. Plus, they can't stop along the way because of the risk they'll high-tail-it to parts unknown. Just don't see it happening.
One possibility is using Princess Cruise line (whatever) —on a daily basis— and drop rafts into Chesapeake Bay, give them a cheap GPS-enabled phone, then let them know there are more sack lunches at the Capitol. Tell them to ask for Joe.
No!? Why? it's as good as the Gov's idea, and it's somewhat sustainable.
