The race for House Speaker in Austin continues on, and many people are saying they no longer care and just want it to be over after both Republican candidates began courting Democrat votes to win.
Dustin Burrows attempted to bull rush the field, meeting with Democrats and quickly emerging with a list of pledged supporters including some of the most radical Democrats in the House. Many people assumed Burrows accomplished this by promising to continue the recent trend of Republican House Speakers in Texas appointing Democrats to lead legislative committees.
Based on the number of supporters Burrows claimed, it seemed as though he had secured the votes to become Speaker.
However, it was soon revealed that at least 5 of the Representatives listed by Burrows were also on the list of David Cook supporters—Burrows’ main Republican challenger in the Speaker’s race. Some on Burrow’s list claimed they never pledged support to Burrows in the first place. This meant neither candidate had the votes to win.
Yesterday, David Cook sent an email (first reported by Brad Johnson of The Texan) to House Democrats asking for their support as Speaker. In the letter, Cook told Democrats that while their strange Marxist ways will not be allowed to chair legislative committees, he seemed to imply that Democrat’s would hold numerous positions as Vice Chair.
Do Texas Republicans need Democrat votes to enact the real conservative agenda? Maybe! And maybe pigs will fly! (Over the border.)
It seems little has changed in the Texas House, and whoever makes the most promises to Democrats will become Speaker.
It’s not an elephant in the room—it’s a chair! All roads lead to Democrat Chairs.
They all make me want to puke as well as those who support these RINO losers. They are despicable human beings because they posture as Christian conservatives and them proceed to deal with the devil. True liars and deceivers NOT Christian in any way. The hypocrisy continues on the alleged right. I think installing mirrors all around the Capitol building so they can look at themselves telling lies every single day would be an expense I would help pay for.
There SHOULD be Democratic chairs, in my opinion. This state is on a race to the bottom of control of a few extremist Republicans and not of rural voters, urban voters, or pretty much any voters. Which is why school vouchers are apt to pass.
Republicans don't even care about their own Republican voters, but they do care about Republican donors.
