A Louisiana pilot is alleging that Bryan Texas mayor, Bobby Gutierrez, demanded $250,000 from him after he was forced to make an emergency landing in an empty field.
In December of 2022, Borrel Rene Jean Luc from Marksville, Louisiana was forced to make an emergency landing in a field near Texas A&M University in Bryan, Texas.
The plane never damaged any buildings or equipment on the property, nor did it hit any animals.
The pilot is alleging that when he requested to have his plane removed from the property, Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez, demanded $250,000 for “emotional damages” to his cows when their breeding was interrupted.
We kind of get it to be honest. Imagine for a moment that you’re a cow and you’re trying to get your freak on with another nice lady cow and all of a sudden this plane lands right in the middle of you doing the dirty.
But a quarter million dollars in damages? Hmmm…
Dan Gryder of the YouTube Channel Probable Cause has an excellent breakdown of this whole thing where he interviews the pilot and discusses the entire story. It’s a bit long but the real interesting part starts at the 27-minute mark where the pilot alleges that Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez said damages would start at around $250,000.
The weirdness doesn’t stop there though.
The property where the plane landed is owned by the Bryan Business Council (BBC), which the city says acts independently of the city of Bryan…although you can find the BBC on the city’s .gov website.
The BBC leases the land to Rafter D Genetics, a private company that specializes in artificial insemination and embryo harvesting. This lease costs Rafter D Genetics only $1 a year.
Rafter D Genetics then let Mayor Gutierrez bring his cows on the property in a private agreement. When the plane landed the owner of Rafter D Genetics claims it disrupted a breeding operation resulting in financial loss for both men.
Oh, and by the way, Gutierrez was an ex-officio member of the BBC board.
So to recap, The Bryan Business Council, who Mayor Bobby Gutierrez is an ex-officio member of, has land that it leases to Rafter D Genetics for only $1 a year, Rafter D Genetics then enters into a “private agreement” with Mayor Bobby Gutierrez to bring his cattle on.
Dan Gryder also says that Mayor Gutierrez is able to appoint who is on the BBC board.
We’ve never seen so many red flags in our life.
When news of all of this hit social media the BBC went into full panic, immeidately asking the pilot to remove his plane from the property.
There’s defintely something odd going on here with the whole thing. We hope the city hires a third-party investigator to look into all of this. Taxpayers should also be concerned that their land is being leased out for way too cheap with seemingly no return to the city but plenty of return to Mayor Bobby Gutierrez.
We also hope the cows are doing alright.
