Dallas County GOP Censures 2 House Reps and Speaker Burrows

Censure resolutions passed last night after previously failing.

Dallas County GOP held a county executive committee (CEC) meeting last night where three resolutions were passed censuring Rep. Morgan Meyer, Rep. Angie Chen Button, and House Speaker Dustin Burrows.

In a post from the Dallas County Republicans Facebook group, precinct chair Peter Schroer documents the sanctions which now carry an added charge of not allowing Button and Meyer to run as Republican for the next 24 months.

Many of the comments seem to support the censure.

Former Dallas GOP Executive Director Susan Fountain claimed that the party has lost a net of 50 precinct chairs since last year.

Current Revolt spoke to Dallas precinct chairs who expressed concern over the censures of Rep. Button and Meyer wondering if the party could financially survive a potential lawsuit if they’re not allowed to appear on a Republican ballot.

Precinct chairs pointed to a lackluster Reagan Day Dinner that only brought in around $25,000 this year. Tickets to the dinner were $600 per seat.

Rep. Button and Meyer were both invited to the CEC meeting to defend themselves from the censure. Rep. Button sent a letter and had someone read it on her behalf where she defended herself from the claims in the resolution.

The censure resolution claimed Rep. Button and Meyers violated core principles of the Republican Party of Texas including not voting for David Cook for Speaker of the House.
