DC CPAC 2023 Filled With Drag Queens, Drunks and BOREDOM
Sparsely attended CPAC filled with more degeneracy than conservatism.
CPAC 2023 was held last weekend in Washington D.C., and yours truly was (regrettably) on site to check it out and report on everything observed. Honestly, there wasn’t much to see, and it felt like a waste of hotel money.
We were denied media credentials, despite Instagram “influencers” with less than 2,000 followers getting press passes. Not surprising though, considering our CPAC Dallas coverage last year.
There’s also the whole drama regarding Matt Schlapp after he was accused of sexually assaulting ex-footballer and Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker’s staffer. I guess his alleged antics explain the amount of gay stuff seen at CPAC (more on that later.)
A staffer who worked for Herschel Walker’s failed U.S. Senate bid in Georgia is accusing prominent conservative operative Matt Schlapp of groping his groin after leaving an Atlanta-area bar shortly before the midterm elections.
Many prospective arrivals avoided attending due to the drama surrounding Schlapp. Fox News also pulled out of the convention, which is historic considering their past wall-to-wall coverage of such conferences.
We’re told only around 10,000 people were on-site at CPAC at its peak; needless to say, people aren’t “Schlapp-happy.”
Speakers
Kari Lake and Don Jr. were both on site giving speeches, and posted event photos show empty rooms. Understandable in light of the aforementioned circumstances. As a past observer, this is the most empty CPAC primetime I’ve ever witnessed.
This was pretty par for the course for most of the event.
Exhibitors
Weird exhibitors were on-site for a conservative conference including the mysterious New Federal State of China, Atheists for Liberty, and Log Cabin Republicans.
New Federal State of China
These guys had two booths and were clearly quite well-funded. A staffer for the booths thought the convention was a Democrat event (explains the face masks.) While we like things associated with Steve Bannon, who co-founded this, they need to get their staff up to date with where they’re at.
Atheists for Liberty
Another very well-funded organization, it seemed odd they’d be at a conference advertising to a more religious base. Despite having an extremely low social media presence, Atheists for Liberty had a booth as well as an extra lavish after-party (probably where their advertising budget went).
We appreciated the free food despite it being blasphemous.
Log Cabin Republicans
Last but not the least cringe, there’s the premier gay men’s Republican club. They had quite the presence at a “conservative” conference. So far, there’s no monkeypox cases known to the public. All this needs is a child drag queen, and it’d be little different than Democrat gay gatherings.
Weird Attendees
“Conservative” Republican drag queen, Lady MAGA, was present, all 12 feet tall of him, showing how Democrats were the real homophobes. Often, I wondered if I got lost and turned up at the Libertarian Convention (about the same attendance.)
Gross. No wonder many believe GOP stands for “Gay Old Party,” rather than “Grand Old Party.”
CPAC also had drunk gay attendees doing interviews completely embarrassing themselves. Andre Soriano is known for being the MAGA dress designer. He was so drunk, he grabbed on random people and slurred his words; We witnessed firsthand. Very telling of CPAC, and its downhill trajectory.
That’s really about it. Steve Bannon threw a pretty great party and we appreciated the invite. We were happy to meet up with friends, allies, and readers like you.
CPAC is dead, and barring divine intervention, it will never recover. TPUSA will continue to reign as conference king (fun fact: they’re the only reason Rand Paul won the 2015 CPAC straw poll.)
Unless Trump, Desantis, or a dark horse American Nationalist wins the nomination in 2024 and re-enthuses the base enough to make it look interesting again, CPAC is forever dead. It was nice knowing it I guess.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story attributed Schlapp’s alleged assault incorrectly.
