The already heated runoff for Senate District 30 is getting more heated, with Senate District 12 resident Brent Hagenbuch releasing a new mailer barrage against Jace Yarbrough. With the amount of high-profile endorsements, you would think Hagenbuch wouldn’t be too concerned about hammering his opponent.
In the latest flier dump, Hagenboo Hagenbrandon ugh Hagenbuch invoked past articles written by Yarbrough, where he questions some people’s sacred cows.
Frankly, this strategy is weird considering how similar this is to Democrat attacks on Trump, accusing him of attacking “democracy.” To be fair, Hagenbuch has donated to Democrats in the past, so it’s understandable he’d use their tactics.
Now getting to the point, Hagenbuch uses out-of-context block quotes from Yarbrough’s writings showing the dangers of absolute democracy (i.e. mob rule.) Common sense, Center-Right views that’ve been held since our nation’s founding equate to attacking democracy in the Hagenbuch campaign’s view.
Speaking of foundings, Brent is also bashing the Founding Fathers when he hurls these accusations against his opponent. Many of our framers stated similar opinions on the dangers of total democracy.
For instance, fourth President James Madison, one of the Constitution’s authors, advocated a representative Republic that could check the masses and ensure others rights weren’t trampled by a “tyranny of the majority.” He definitely explains this in Federalist 51 of The Federalist Papers.
This point is emphasized other times by James Madison in The Federalist Papers.
Even second President John Adams would’ve been trashed by Hagenbuch for his agreement with Yarbrough’s statements. Adams is notable for warning that democracy could end up despotic like an authoritarian regime.
Let’s not forget Alexander Hamilton (yes, the one that broadway play is about), another author of The Federalist Papers, also agreed with Yarbrough’s statements and would’ve been savaged by Hagenbuch. While speaking before the New York Ratifying Convention in 1788, Hamilton warned against the dangers of the total democracy supported by the anti-Federalists of his day. These are the same dangers Yarbrough warned against in the mailer block quotes.
The Founder’s fears about mob rule, reverberated by Yarbrough, were why our Framers ensured America would be a representative republic instead of a pure democracy. It was among the reasons our Constitution was ratified.
Are we really surprised with Hagenbuch’s thoughtless attacks on our Founding Father’s ideas? If he won’t even respect Texas election codes requiring him to actually live in his district, what makes you think he’ll respect the Constitution?
Why would Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick be a promoter for a man this ignorant of his base, and of America’s founding? Does Patrick want to pass school choice (whatever that means) so badly he’ll rally behind a guy who struggled as County Chair, and unwittingly attacking our Constitution’s creators? If Patrick pulls this off for Hagenbuch, it’d definitely be a flex of political might, and he’d gain an ally that’ll follow his every order.

If Patrick is willing to go this far for a terrible candidate like Brent, this better be a good school choice plan. The civics curriculum would be terrible, but at least parents could have more “choice,” however it’s defined.
Regardless, if Patrick keeps mounting political capital behind Hagenbuch, I highly doubt we’ll get anything reliably sound. I mean, his plans could involve this guy being your kid’s teacher for all we know.
I heard rumor the Brent Hagenbach is in the Epstein flight logs. Can anyone confirm?
If Brent has to send this many mailers out to fill up our mailboxes weekly, he's not the right guy.
