Democrat Man’s Attack on Texas Capitol Foiled by DPS
An attack on the Texas State Capitol in Austin was prevented by Texas DPS officers.
NBC DFW:
According to Texas DPS, officers received credible information about an individual planning a violent attack on the Texas State Capitol on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.
Texas DPS said their Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents worked alongside the FBI to investigate the validity of the threat and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
At around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, DPS SWAT arrested 40-year-old Benny Caldera, Jr., at his residence in Converse, about 15 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, Texas DPS said.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, DPS officers spoke to Caldera’s friend, who said he “had made verbal threats to assault the Texas State Capitol Building.”
Caldera’s friend told DPS officers that Caldera said, “I love you, if you don’t see me again,” and explained that, “I am going to the Capitol and I am going to shoot it up,” according to arrest documents.
Current Revolt located a voting record for a man named Benny Caldera who also lived in Converse and was 40-years old and the individual had a Democrat-only voting record.

Communist Influencer Hasan Piker’s Speech Couldn’t Fill a Small Room
Communist Political influencer Hasan Piker gave a speech at the University of Texas, hosted by the UT Democrats’ and he struggled to fill a room.

Controversial Twitch streamer and self-described socialist Hasan Piker spoke Wednesday night at an event hosted by UT’s University Democrats.
It was nearly derailed after organizers said the university refused to accommodate a space large enough for the pro-Palestinian influencer. Despite that, hundreds of students packed into the William C. Powers Jr. Student Activity Center.
Piker thanked the students — and addressed the pushback leading up to the speech. He said the persistence of organizers and attendees was evidence of a political shift in deep-red Texas ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Turns out they didn’t actually need a larger space.

Republican and conservative groups spoke out against the event with some even asking the school to cancel it altogether. But like most of these types of things, the attempted cancellations probably just gave it more attention than it would have originally gotten:
