Doctor Spams Patient Emails Soliciting Campaign Donations
Dr. Carrie de Moor used her patient email list to solicit support for her campaign.
Last Friday, Carrie de Moor, candidate for Senate District 30, sent a mass email purportedly to her patient list from the urgent care facility, where she is both the founder and doctor.
In a set of emails sent to Current Revolt on Friday, multiple former patients received the above campaign email, in which de Moor asks her “Driven family for help” with volunteering, donating, and voting.
After posting the above email on X Friday night, de Moor responded that the email was “unapproved” and sent out by a marketing staff member and that “corrective action was under way with that individual.”
The above email shows it was sent by an account with the email address rudy@carriedemoor.ccsend.com. Carrie de Moor’s husband also happens to be named Rudy.
A review of Driven Healthcare’s privacy practice page states that patients protected health information would not be “sold or otherwise disclosed” without permission.
Later in the evening, de Moor sent out an apology email to her patients, saying the campaign email was an error by her internal marketing team and that patients could be assured that information stayed “within the Driven Healthcare corporate privacy protection measures.”
Patients we spoke to are asking how campaign staff had access to patient information.
According to HIPAAJournal.com, the disclosure of a patient’s name may be considered a HIPAA violation.
Carrie de Moor is the Ken Paxton endorsed candidate in the Senate District 30 race. Others in the race include Cody Clark, Brent Hagenbuch, and Jace Yarbrough.
Imagine trusting her as your doctor. lol
Internal marketing Team = her husband setup an Constant Contact account. Its possible she has a separate mailing list used just for Doctor business that accidentally mixed up with the political campaign.
