Former RPT Chairman Launches Voter Data Company, Promises the Party Data He Exported Isn't In It
Trust me bro.
Last Saturday, Former Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Abraham George confirmed rumors that he was building a data company using "2,000 data points" he's harvested on every voter. George also promised he's not using RPT data he previously had access to in order to build his system. For the record, we have defended George before when the complaints against him were bogus.
In June, Abraham George lost his re-election bid for RPT Chairman to D’Rinda Randall.
According to Randall, upon takeover of the RPT, a review of the email system showed that George had completely wiped his email account. Randall’s team was able to recover his email account including all deleted emails. One of those deleted emails included a message from MailChimp (an email marketing platform), confirming an export of the RPT database to Abraham George seemingly initiated from his home:
According to Michelle Smith, Senior Advisor to Attorney General Paxton, George did the export in order to give the data to the party:
If you’re confused as to why Smith is a spokesperson for George, you’re not the only one.
(Editors note: I have personally been a part of at least 5 leadership transitions in tech companies in my twenty years of working in tech. Downloading the database from a CRM or data storage software to send to the new leadership, especially after being informed you’re being removed or fired, is unheard of and risks legal ramifications. Generally, prior leadership just turns over login credentials for the database and doesn’t touch anything else. - Ortiz)
Current Revolt confirmed that the Republican Party of Texas is still using the MailChimp account, so it doesn’t really make sense why the database would need to be exported if the MailChimp account was going to remain active.
Additionally, according to MailChimp, if you do not renew your account, it gets downgraded to a “free” account where you can still access your database for export. The need for George to export the MailChimp database due to fear it was not going to continue being paid for doesn’t add up here.
Over on Facebook, an image showing a Certificate of Formation with the Office of the Secretary of State of Texas began doing rounds showing George had formed a company called “GOP DATA LLC”.
