Governor Abbott Shuts Down Discriminatory Muslims-Only Waterpark Event
The event was being held at a city-owned waterpark
After news of a Muslim-only, city-owned waterpark event went viral, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to the city, which eventually shut the whole thing down.
The City of Grand Prairie has canceled a controversial Eid event planned at the city-owned Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark following mounting backlash and a threat from Gov. Greg Abbott to revoke state grant funding.
“After further review and in the best interest of the City of Grand Prairie, the June 1 EID event at Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark has been canceled,” spokesperson Beth Owens told Texas Scorecard.
The letter from Governor Abbott, first published by Sara Gonzales, specifically mentioned that the City of Grand Prairie would have to pay back over half a million dollars in grants if it didn’t shut down the event.
Gonzales also noticed that the organizer, Dr. Aminah Knight, owns and operates a childcare “LEARING” Center:
In a 2026 interview with Voyage Dallas, Knight says her family moved to Texas in 2019 after living in the United Arab Emirates.
Getting the city to shut down this discriminatory event is a big W for Abbott.
Now, despite being more of a federal issue, hopefully he can do something about the cheap tech labor (H1B) issue Texans are dealing with.

Abbott "dealing" with H1B visas? That's crazy talk! How would he make money then?
