MASK OFF: Former Cornyn Staffer Becomes Chief of Staff for James Talarico

Senator John Cornyn’s former deputy legislative director has been hired on as the chief of staff for the James Talarico campaign.

Jacob Smith worked for Cornyn for five years as deputy legislative director and policy adviser, previously served on the House Science Committee for Rep. Mike Collins, and as a legislative aide to Sen. Roger Wicker. (All republicans)

In a statement to Notus.org:

“I’ve worked for Republicans like Senator Cornyn my entire career, but this year I’m proud to be joining James Talarico’s campaign,” Smith confirmed in a statement through the Talarico campaign. “Instead of playing partisan politics, Talarico speaks to the needs of everyday people who day in and day out work too hard for too little.

Smith also took a moment to swing at Paxton:

“Ken Paxton is the most corrupt, self-dealing politician in Texas who would sell their futures to the highest contributor just to hold onto power. I’m encouraging all my fellow Republicans who know Ken Paxton is unfit to serve in the Senate to finally hold him accountable at the ballot box.”

Really makes one wonder the kind of staff Cornyn kept around that would easily flip parties like that.
