Plano City Council Votes Unanimously for Citizen Referendum on DART

The citizens of Plano will now decide on DART's future.

Last night, the Plano City Council voted unanimously to give citizens the choice to decide whether the city should leave the DART system.

DART has faced heavy criticism recently as Plano and other DFW cities have expressed concern that DART is not providing service up to par with the tax revenue it’s receiving.

According to a City of Plano news release, Plano has been a DART member since 1983 and has contributed more than $2.2 billion in sales tax. An independent study by EY, in 2023 Plano contributed more than $109 million to DART while only $44 million was spent in Plano.
