A Freudian slip was discovered on X Thursday morning as State Representative Tom Oliverson correctly characterized his bill to increase the number of foreign doctors caring for aging Texans as “RED RAPE.”
Much of what Republicans do can be described as raping Texas. Apparently lawmakers have a name for this—red rape.
Putting our health in the hands of foreigners who will simply leave and go home if they make a big mistake is definitely rape.
Of course, you might also literally be raped, and then the raper will avoid any jail for a crime that is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
It’s not all about Indian doctors. The bill also targets expanding opportunities for U.S. citizen doctors who didn’t land residency positions, meaning medical graduates who struggled academically. Yikes.
So now we have this to look forward to.
Thanks, Tom. Very sweet of you.
Texas Medical Association and the physicians in the Texas legislature would rather subject Texans to Third World country medical graduates, and US graduates that graduated at the bottom of their class and were not offered a residency, rather than allow nurse practitioners to practice at the top of their license, as 38 other states already do. This is why Texas remains #51 in access to healthcare, and at the bottom of many other health parameters. And our health insurance premiums are the highest in the nation.
Gotta be honest fellows. Having attended a recent medical school graduation and listened to the way the staff and the graduates presented themselves.... well.... it's depressing. I know one graduating class is hardly representative, and our physicians are not supposed to necessarily be renaissance men and women... but this was ridiculous. The practice of medicine is going to be losing even more prestige in the future, I predict.
