Republicans Making It Easier for Texans to Become Homeowners
You may get a second home before we’re finished.
Texas Republicans in the House triumphantly passed SB 17, an innovative solution ingeniously designed to simplify the complex process of homeownership with a narrowly tailored law to decrease the demand for housing.
The legal theory leveraged by the GOP bill is good ol’ fashioned discrimination. Looking closer, you’ll find this is the same kind of discrimination the reader engages in when meeting a family member at their home as opposed to a Venezuelan cartel member. It’s a very cautious and cozy discrimination, and it is quickly becoming fashionable again.
A renewed push in Texas to ban Chinese and other non-citizens from purchasing property is almost across the finish line, prompting protests by opponents who claim the measure will stoke discrimination against minorities.
Many analysts fail to realize that Texas Republicans have rigged the game to always win. With white Texans already being a minority vs. non-white Texans, the worry about discriminating against minorities is null and void.
The Texas bill, SB 17, bans most non-citizens from countries deemed by the United States to be national security threats from purchasing any property.
That list currently includes China, Iran, North Korea and Russia, but a recent amendment allows Governor Greg Abbott -- a close Trump ally -- the freedom to add other countries.
However, before passing the House, the bill was shockingly neutered, allowing hostile foreigners in our state “legally” to skirt the rules and buy property.

Now, all those most likely to purchase property (foreigners who are here) can still buy it up—increasing demand for housing that continues to get more expensive.
Seems like a silly twist, no?
Hopefully this theoretical ban turns into a real ban soon—which will decrease the demand for housing while we simultaneously increase the supply by emptying houses with ICE raids.
If signed into law, SB 17 would apparently be the first law banning any category of illegal alien from purchasing property in Texas.
This has many people asking…. most conservative session ever?
Who knew the government had really easy ways to lower the cost of housing this whole time?
So many R house members bragging about having voted for this bill on Facebook.
When you ask them in the comments why they voted for the illegal alien amendment - dead silence. They just refuse to answer.
Ban Indians they’re annoying and they steal and scam Americans all day. I’ve never had a Chinese scam call.
Chinese at least make me quality goods. The Indians provide no value and their culture sucks.
