RPT Chairman Accused of Undermining Executive Committee to Protect Senator
More drama leading up to the RPT Convention in June.
Members of the Texas GOP Legislative Priorities Committee submitted an open letter of no confidence in Chairman Abraham George yesterday citing inconsistency with his responsibilities as chair and, “abusive” behavior as reasons behind their lack of support.
The letter, sent to members of the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) has a list of grievances by the members of the lege priorities committee:
Notable alleged issues with Chairman George include:
Supporting and advocating for bills that contradicted the committee’s votes.
Running a legislative effort outside of the Legislative Priorities Committee.
Declining to publish the Legislative Priorities Committee’s newsletter on the RPT website.
‘Abusive, demeaning, and profanity laced verbal attacks toward committee members.’
Removing the issued of closed primaries from the Legislative Priorities Committee’s agenda.
The letter was signed by seven members of the Legislative Priorities Committee:
State Republican Executive Committee member, Christin Bentley, issued the following statement on X saying her ‘last straw’ with Chairman Abraham George was the ‘federally mandated vehicle kill switch issue.’:
Bentley states that the Legislative Priorities Committee approved a call to action, meant to pressure Senator Ted Cruz, to be distributed by George but that George never released it. Bentley then says that George released different generic messaging through official RPT channels, undermining the strategy approved by the committee.
Bentley then ends her statement saying she will not be endorsing Abraham George for reelection.
