Perhaps other packs and troops are different, but the girls in our pack and troop are in their own female only groups that meet on a different night of the week than the boys, so there is literally no interaction between the boys and girls except maybe if we're all doing a community service project on a Saturday like picking up trash in the local parks. Again, with all that the world has to offer (ie pervasive controlled and influential media), I think the Scouts is an excellent program to ground any kid in an ethos and give them real world, outdoorsman capabilities that will undoubtedly serve them the rest of their life. Skills like swimming and water rescue, CPR and life saving, orienteering, camping and backpacking, fire and blade safety, leadership, good morals, volunteering and civil service as well as respect and service to our country. I hope anyone reading this will reconsider that despite its vilification, the Scouting program still represents one of the best programs available for kids and parents to be involved in.
I went through the Boy Scouts as a youth and earned my Eagle Scout in 1990. I am currently serving as a Den Leader in my son's Cub Pack in rural N. Texas. Our leadership is mostly made up of military veterans who are serious-minded as well as devout Christians and involved parents. The Boy Scouts and now Scouting America program is still a leader mentorship program, both for youth and their volunteer parents. It is also a great way to instill an ethos of some sort into a youth (or adult), whether they are a boy or a girl. The Scout Law includes trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. They are a good ethos for all humans regardless of their gender. And that's just the beginning. "Be Prepared" is the motto. Additionally, the Scout oath is "On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, to obey the Scout Law, to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Again, everyone can benefit. Our good family friends put their daughter in the girl's Scout Troop here. He's an ex Navy Seal and LAPD special task force veteran for his pedigree of conservative decision-making. While I am not thrilled about the name change, I think that every youth who is nurtured through the scouting program with an INVOVLED PARENT can benefit. I dare say the parents will benefit too from everything there is to learn and from just being involved. And it's like everything else - you get out of what you put into it. I hope this helps set the record straight about how anyone can seek out the right troop and give their kids a great education in outdoorsmanship, leadership and possessing personal determination to succeed. I guess the alternative is to get them a Nintendo Switch and lose them to a world that wishes nothing more than to speak into our children. - Best regards
Glad you got to grow in a space where young men could bond together without girls around. Do you not want that for future generations? Or is that an old tradition that was meaningless in 2025?
Baden Powell is rolling over in his grave. 🤬
I don’t even understand this. Isn’t Girl Scouts already a thing?

Got a friend and media colleague who is a longtime active scoutmaster. Tapping his shoulder for comments.
