Texas Democratic Party Convention Begins Today
A small peak at what the Democratic Party is up to
The Texas Democratic Party state convention begins today into Saturday in Corpus Christi, despite Corpus Christi having a possible water crisis.
Today, the convention opens with a concert headed by Bobby Pulido who is in a heated race TX-15 against Republican Monica De La Cruz.
Current Kalshi prediction odds for TX-15:
Pulido has faced controversy surrounding his past bandmates being linked to child sex abuse arrests:
The TDP, like the RPT, will also be voting on resolutions, rules, and the party platform. Highlighted resolutions are ones that we found to be unique/odd.
TDP Resolutions via Lone Star Left:
Ending complicity in genocide
Arms embargo on military aid and weapons transfers to Israel
Recognition of a Palestinian state
Statehood for Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico
Amend the Texas election code to allow limited use of preferential/rank-choice voting.
Election day voter registration (”same-day registration”)
Universal access to countywide voting (decoupling joint primary requirements)
Rank-choice voting
Women’s right to choose / abortion rights
Death penalty abolition
Transgender rights and protections
Raising the federal minimum wage to a living wage of at least $17/hour
Abolishing ICE
Pathway to citizenship
ICE accountability (separate from abolition resolutions)
Condemning Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows
Gun violence prevention/gun safety (combined, amended with “leading killer of children” language, gun show loophole, mental health checks)
Regulation of petrochemical facilities / environmental justice for Gulf Coast communities
Legalization of cannabis
Public school funding, opposing vouchers/property tax mechanisms/state takeovers
People’s primary policy / banning billionaire influence in primaries
Social Security expansion
DEI / anti-discrimination resolution (amended to include anti-racial, ethnic, gender, religious, cultural, homophobic, transphobic language)
Heat safety protections for outdoor workers
Ending the death penalty for convicted criminals while also promoting abortion rights seems particularly ridiculous.
The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee also announced their priorities for the Texas Democratic Convention:
Lowering costs by cracking down on price gouging, cutting property taxes, and protecting working families’ paychecks.
Improving healthcare by expanding access and standing up to insurance companies that put profits over patients.
Saving our neighborhood schools by investing in them instead of vouchers.
Creating good jobs by offering incentives for small businesses.
Ending corruption and corporate greed by putting the people first and ending tax breaks for billionaires.
Texas Democrats will also be voting for who will chair their party.
Current candidates are:
Kendall Scudder (incumbent): Elected in 2025.
Monica Alcala: Former Texas Democratic Party Executive Director.
Marco Orrantia Former Texas Democratic Party staffer.
Current Revolt will be on-site covering this event beginning tomorrow.

I'm no expert on it, but my assumption is the Dems want to push TX towards the Alaska model of voting. Daniel Horowitz from The Blaze said in 2024:
"Last decade, [Democrats] used clever campaigning and substantial funding to abolish primaries in Alaska, creating a jungle primary system with ranked-choice voting. This system essentially fosters a "no labels" dynamic, allowing covert Democrats, with the help of subversive establishment Republicans, to block conservatives from winning closed partisan primaries and then use a convoluted formula to defeat them in a ranked-choice general election ballot."

reading this list reminded me why I'm a Republican! 😂
