Tony Gonzales Fact Checked 25+ Times On Twitter
Community Notes have not done the congressman any favors.
With the takeover of X by Elon Musk, a feature was added that allows users to fact-check tweets posted on the platform. This feature, referred to as Community Notes, uses an algorithm (made public here) to crowd source information from users to verify information on the platform is accurate or provided proper context.
Unfortunately, for Congressman Tony Gonzales, this has lead to a large amount of his tweets being fact-checked and community noted.
Almost every community note applied to Gonzales’ tweets are related to his comments on his opponent, Brandon Herrera.
Going beyond X, Gonzales’ staff was getting live-fact-checked at events yeseterday.
Fact checking tweets is nothing new. We reported earlier this year when US House Candidate Mayra Flores was involved in the #GRUBGATE scandal for her tweets about food. It was quite hilarious and worth a read if you haven’t heard about it already:
