ANOTHER L FOR DART - University Park to Vote On Removal
The vote was unanimous.
On Tuesday, January 6th, University Park City Council voted to hold a withdrawal election for DART.
Since inception, University Park has paid $122M to DART. DART has calculated that University Park owes DART an additional $91,721,650.
University Park City Council members stated that the city’s payments to DART were hindering it’s ability to fund other projects and issues that were more important for the city than the underutilized DART.
Even citizens testifying in defense of DART admitted that DART “needs to do better.”
As of now, five cities have voted to hold DART withdrawal elections. Those cities include:
Farmers Branch
Highland Park
Irving
Plano
University Park
Current Revolt spent a day riding DART throughout DFW and spoke to riders who admitted that DART was ripping off taxpayers and that it was unsafe to ride.
DART has been promoting its new “Silver Line” that provides transit to the DFW Airport, however, the new line is incredibly inefficient. A DART ride using the Silver Line from DFW to a DART station in Carrollton would take an hour and a half versus a 18 minute car ride.
Nadine Lee’s current base annual salary as President & CEO of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is $400,000. In November of last year, she received a $60,000 performance bonus despite DART being under extreme scrutiny for safety and financial issues.
The election for DART withdrawal will be held on Election Day, May 2nd, 2026.

I wish more people used public transportation but I also understand why they don't. Our city is so large and so spread out it only makes sense in smaller more compact areas of Dallas. And it wouldn't surprise me if when we DOGE Dallas, if we found fraud intermixed with the annual funding and losses of DART
