Scams in politics can be hard to spot, especially for newbies. The first thing right-wingers learn is to watch out for utopian language, as it is often associated with policies that align with communism. The communist pitches work best on young people, because they have less life experience in dealing with scams.
Obviously, utopian scams also work on people who are less intelligent.
What is currently happening with the push to legalize gambling casinos in Texas is a much rarer variety of scam. After previous attempts to legalize gambling in Texas went nowhere, the gambling industry is making its largest push ever in the 89th Legislative Session with reckless deception.
This article is not meant to provide all the facts or be an exhaustive resource for exposing all the players and angles of this scam, but many Texans appear to be falling for this scam’s bold deception, and it’s definitely a situation our readers should be monitoring. Legalizing gambling in Texas requires a constitutional amendment and local government approval, but these special interests don’t seem to take NO for an answer.
Las Vegas Sands Corporation and the Adleson family have been trying to create momentum in growing their power and influence in Texas through a “shock and awe” campaign, which started in earnest when they purchased the Dallas Mavericks in 2023 and quickly sold their best player. In addition to sucking up real estate, they started donating heavily to Texas politicians, and they appear to have given money to 100% of the members of the Texas House and Senate.
If there are House or Senate members they haven’t paid off, I can’t find them.
It wouldn’t be true Texas politics without shell companies, rebrands, etc. Because of course.
The marketing entity running advertisements for the gambling push calls itself Texas Destination Resort Alliance. What is a “destination resort?” Here is a destination resort in Oklahoma.
What this would look like in Texas would be this, but bigger, and instead of your friendly local Indian tribe, your losses will get sucked into the Adleson’s orbit of terrible things and worse.
3 years ago, when Texas Destination Resort Alliance was running ads trying to legalize gambling, they clearly stated that they were talking about gambling.
Everyone understands there are serious downsides to gambling, and it is not a priority for most Texans to take on the risk of legalizing gambling.
In 2025, they are running many more ads, and they are simply not mentioning the fact that their agenda is to legalize gambling—simply calling them “resorts”—bypassing the need to address the social cost!
Here is one of their 2025 ads with the very ambiguous title, “Let Texan’s Vote.”
These ads are spamming households across Texas. It’s a very blatant attempt to mislead people, and there’s not really another way to interpret the situation.
Somehow it gets worse.
There is a situation we are monitoring in Irving, Texas which proves the Adleson’s and their greedy entities are going for broke.
Irving City Councilman Luis Canosa recently took to X to highlight his efforts to oppose Las Vegas Sands and their attempt to ram through legalizing gambling at the local level ahead of an anticipated statewide vote. Instead of “let them vote,” their strategy locally is to ram it through the council in a few weeks.
There is a lot more to all this, but do you really need any more information? I think we all see this one.
They keep electing these BBLs so I get distracted and then they scam me.
The Adlesons are carpet baggers that are looking to ruin Texas by enriching themselves via gambling addicts- look at what they have done to the Mavericks
