The definition of Vestige is “a trace, mark, or visible sign left by something (such as an ancient city or a condition or practice) vanished or lost”. In the United States many vestiges of a bygone period where sexual morality was not only a cultural expectation, but also written directly into state and federal law, still exist. Occasionally these laws are actually enforced and the individuals who violate them are apprehended and charged.
Over the weekend at two hotels in the DFW, the Hyatt near Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and the Hilton at Southlake Town Square, 48 whoremongers were arrested for attempting to purchase sex. Among those apprehended were a high school teacher and a youth pastor, it is very likely the case that they will soon be fired and their lives will fall apart entirely. Keep in mind most numbers indicate that around half of men who purchase sex from prostitutes are married men. We should celebrate that society at large does seem to continue to react to this sin negatively.
Engaging in this behavior isn’t noble, it wasn’t some righteous attempt of these men to preserve their dignity from the temptation of pornography. These men chose their sexual desires over their wives, children, decency, and society at large. We should be happy when the state exposes men like this, and in this case are essentially assisting a church in keeping it’s pastoral staff morally righteous.
Women should not be permitted to sell sex and men should not be permitted to buy it.
Scripture is clear in it’s condemnation of what it calls “porneia/pornos” a word used with several variants to describe sodomites, prostitutes, men who have sex with prostitutes, pimps, slavers, adulterers, fornicators, those who have incestual sex, and all manner of sexually depraved behavior. This term is also the basis for our modern term “pornography” and has an etymology based around the phrase “to sell”.
Scripture says to “put to death” these behaviors (Colossians 3:5) and Leviticus 19:29 warns against allowing prostitution to be permitted in society, commanding clearly
“Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.”
and yes, this applies to other people’s daughters also.
If we want to live in a society based on Christian principles, we cannot argue against laws that promote these principles. It’s not a difficult concept to understand or at least it shouldn’t be. Sex work isn’t just not work- it’s not how God designed sex to function and a society that tolerates it should not be surprised when God ceases to tolerate the society itself.
Organizations like the ACLU argue that prostitution should be legal so the practice can be engaged with “safer”, and also argues that banning it due to religious conviction is a violation of civil liberties. The ACLU can go pound sand. The basis for the state should be the moral precepts of Biblical Christianity, not the baseless pseudo-humanitarian worship of “choice”. Additionally, legalizing prostitution in places like Nevada has done nothing to curb the shocking amount of human trafficking occurring and reports have come out that more than 80% of legal prostitutes interviewed by researchers have said they want to leave prostitution but are not able to. A properly ordered society would never have allowed this to be a legally permissible option in the first place.
The reality is prostitution being banned reduces prostitution.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill E. “good ‘ole boy” Waybourn of “migrants facing DUI charges are ‘drunks who will run over your children’” fame has stated his Godly position clearly:
“The victims of these heinous crimes are treated like commodities, used to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible. Those who traffic victims are the scourge of the earth, and we will continue to target those responsible for the trafficking and those who solicit sex from them.”
These are the identities of (some of) the coomers:
Some on the left and “right wing” libertarian-minded folks believe prostitution should be legal, and that state resources should not be used to enforce laws against prostitution. What do you think?
