In an email addressed to Republican Precinct Chairs, Midland County GOP Chairman James Beauchamp emphasized that the politically influential Dunn family “DO NOT” speak for the Republican Party. The clarification, which was literally in all caps, comes after Beauchamp said the Dunn family sent a voter guide to Midland County voters in which Democrats (and worse) received the family’s complete and total endorsement.
So imagine the shock to Republicans in Midland County when the Dunn family, known for backing Republicans and organizations adamantly against Democrats even in committee chair positions, sent out a voter guide endorsing several Democrats over Republican candidates.
Tim Dunn, a billionaire megadonor for several Republican candidates and conservative groups like Texans United for a Conservative Majority/Pale Horse, True Texas Project, etc., has actively funded said groups who have been at the forefront in working to highlight Republicans who work with Democrats, specifically House Speaker Dade Phelan. Speaker Phelan, known for assigning Democrats to committee chair positions, faced criticism and a primary opponent for this reason, as well as his involvement in impeaching Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The voter guide, sent out in Midland County, came from a member of the Dunn family and encourages GOP voters to vote for Democrats for City Council, County Commissioner, and County Constable.
The email from Chairman Beauchamp cites one possible reason behind a race endorsement.
In the case of City Council, Robin Poole voted against an $80 million incentive package for a hotel that the Dunns were a partner in. This would explain the negative description for Poole in the voter guide.
In speaking with the Reporter-Telegram on Wednesday, Poole said that she did not vote against the Tapestry Hilton or Hotel Santa Rita projects and that she isn’t against incentive packages in the form of tax abatements. However, cash incentives are not part of her philosophy as a fiscal conservative.
In the race for County Commissioner, Luis Sanchez has voted in 5 Democrat primary and 2 Democrat runoff elections. He has not voted in any Republican primaries. Sanchez was also arrested for a DWI in 2022 when officers smelled alcohol on Sanchez as he was sitting in his parked vehicle.
The endorsement by the Dunn family for Midland County Constable is Larry Woodruff, a Democrat who has voted in at least 2 Democrat primary elections. We found no votes for Woodruff in a Republican primary.
Early voting is currently underway, and voter guides are important tools normies use to make voting choices without having to follow politics 24/7.
In fact, even the politically active are known to bring voter guides into the voting booth to reassure themselves that they are voting for candidates that align with their values.
The shocking revelation that the Dunn’s are targeting elected officials who stood up to crony capitalism throws into question the true motivations of the Dunn’s decade-long backing of groups promoting “limited government conservatism.”
When it comes to local officials affecting someone’s business or personal property it seems that self interest is more important than party
principles or policies. We see it here in my hometown. And this is exactly how Democrats advance their political careers.
No surprise. Is this the Dunn of the Rinaldi Debacle and Fuentes Secret Meetings?
Oh, no worries… We’ll see how he directs his minions after the elections… Can’t wait for the Legislative Session to start. All the speeches will be great!
