School choice is about government access to all kids. Parents already have a “choice”. A choice between public (governmental) or private/homeschool (non-governmental) education for their children.
Republicans have been brainwashed to believe this will solve all the problems in public education, many which were caused by the government. But yet here they are begging for government involvement in their private and homeschools.
Texans need to wake up and see this is a Trojan horse with creeping legislation. It never starts out corrupted but ends up that way with more legislation and control. What happens when the kids don’t meet the achievement standards? Who will be held accountable? The private schools and the homeschools will “need” guidance because the kids are not achieving. Meanwhile they have starved and killed our public schools requiring more “help”. Where does it end?
UNESCO would love to see the government involved in ALL education. Is this is something Abbott heard through the WEF? Perhaps that’s why he’s changed his mind on this matter and is so determined to ram it down Texans’ throats. Wake up Texas!
But at the end of the day Texans will be looking super stupid when Paxton is incarcerated - unless Trump pardons him. And the state is financially destroyed because of illegals and vouchers all while ranked 45 in the nation for Education. The lies and $$$
Hello? Incarcerated for what exactly? As Ted Knight said in Caddyshack, "Well. . . We are all waiting?" Just sounds like a bunch of overblown, horse hockey, hyperbole, right? Yes. Yes, that's what I thought, overblown, horse hockey, hyperbole.
For the felony securities charges that hes used every legal maneuver in the book to delay the trial for. Its finally scheduled for april 15. Make no mistake he absolutely committed these felonies. The SEC already determined guilt and fined him and stripped his license and that of the firm that allowed him to work under the table.
Go read the case on the finra brokercheck site. Its a good read.
There is plenty i didnt agree with Glenn on as my representative but he was right on this one. The house did what they were supposed to do.
I really wish people would stop being lemmings for a few vocal people who are getting rich off of drumming up faux outrage. Just go look at the information for yourselves and stop believing everything you hear. You might be surprised to learn just who is lying to you and why.
Paxton is not the best AG ever. Hes not even mediocre. Have some good, even great things come out of that office? Absolutely, but none of it is his doing. Its all the work of the underattorneys in the office. Our posterchild just walks around taking all the credit when the man has literally never tried a case in his life. Ever.
You have a right to your opinion, but you don't have a right to your facts. I just read your summary of the SEC case against Paxton, and you have no idea what the heck you talking about. You falsely claim above that he had his license stripped from him. That is a bald-faced lie. He was accused of soliciting clients under someone else's license. He was fined $1,000 and was given a letter of reprimand. That's it. The SEC can't "strip" away something that never existed. He never had a license. He never claimed to have a license. You are delusional. What he claimed is that he had an agreement in place with an SEC licensed firm to solicit clients and he claimed that he did not need a license since he is a licensed attorney. Attorneys in Texas do not need a license to sell securities. Look it up. You might just learn something before you engage in another nonsense rant.
Glen Rogers was and is a buffoon. He voted to impeach Paxton just like the lemming that he is. He was an embarrassment and now he's gone. And he's gone because he refused to vote in the affirmative the Governor's voucher program and like the fool that he is he voted to impeach Paxton. And finally, he got beat because he was just simply an all-around tool. Did you see the stupid ads he ran where he called Olcott's fishing boat a yacht? Talk about stupid and desperate. ,
He was indeed licensed at one time. He passed the series 65 in 2001. You must be registered with an RIA in order to perform the duties of an IAR. Being an attorney doesn't automatically waive all requirements regarding the sale of securities. It only affords him the ability to provide cursory advice as a normal means of his regular job duties. Specifically doing the things he did is not a regular part of his duties and obligations to legal clients. Maybe read the law, or talk to someone who actually knows the regulations. I know the well. I'm studying for the licensing exam myself currently.
Just because he claimed something does not make it so. Mowery Capital Management ALSO lost their license over this. The violations rise to a felony level, so that is why the SEC notified the authorities of the criminal activity that resulted in the felony indictments.
"KENNETH WARREN PAXTON, JR. ("PAXTON") OCCASIONALLY SOLICITED POTENTIAL CLIENTS FOR MOWERY CAPITAL MANAGEMENT, LLC ("MCM"). PURSUANT TO AN AGREEMENT WITH MCM, PAXTON WOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR EACH CLIENT THAT PAXTON SOLICITED SUCCESSFULLY. PAXTON SUCCESSFULLY SOLICITED THREE (3) CLIENTS FOR MCM IN 2004, 2005, AND 2012, WHEN MCM WAS A STATE REGISTERED INVESTMENT ADVISER BUT PAXTON WAS NOT REGISTERED AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER REPRESENTATIVE OF MCM. PAXTON RELIED ON MCM TO DISCLOSE THIS COMPENSATION ARRANGEMENT TO THE POTENTIAL CLIENTS THAT PAXTON SOLICITED FOR MCM. THE TEXAS SECURITIES ACT PROHIBITS A PERSON FROM ACTING AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER REPRESENTATIVE FOR A STATE REGISTERED INVESTMENT ADVISER UNLESS THAT PERSON IS REGISTERED AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER REPRESENTATIVE FOR THAT PARTICULAR INVESTMENT ADVISER. ACCORDINGLY, PAXTON VIOLATED THE TEXAS SECURITIES ACT BY ACTING AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER REPRESENTATIVE OF MCM WHEN MCM WAS REGISTERED AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER WITH THE SECURITIES COMMISSIONER, BUT PAXTON WAS NOT REGISTERED AS AN INVESTMENT ADVISER REPRESENTATIVE OF MCM."
Lastly, since you've chosen to be a lemming yourself and not bother to actually read the house rules, you are the epitome of the problem here. Dozens of men have made themselves very wealthy out of drumming up feigned outrage over a situation they are manipulating because the vast majority of Texans are willfully and woefully ignorant of the truth and in the policies and procedures and rules that govern the Texas Legislature. The house did precisely what they were supposed to do.
Ha. Ha. Some much delusion. Paxton is never going to be convicted of anything connected to selling stock. The case has been dismissed because there was nothing there. It was a big nothing burger. Zero. It was total BS, just like every single one of the charges brought against Trump. Just horse hockey. The charges against Paxton was never anything other than a load of crap, made up for political reasons.
School Choice is about individual liberty for the student and the family. The government ordering a student to go to a particular government school is contrary to individual liberty. Our university and college system is the best in the world because every student has a choice of where they want to attend. Our K-12 system is 24th in the World, down from 1st in the 1970s. We need competition in K-12 education. Breaking up the government monopoly on K-12 is the only way to achieve a competitive environment.
All of Current Revolt's articles quite good, but sometimes they miss the mark. This article is one of them. Rogers got beat for many reasons and school choice was not the only reason. Yes, Abbott went aggressively after those who did not support his voucher program. But Rogers was flawed in so many ways. He voted to impeach Paxton and that was one of dumbest ideas of Drunk Dade's lifetime and Drunk Dade has had a host of dumb ideas. The Paxton impeachment was a colossal failure where Drunk Dade and his band of my-way-or-the-highway minions such as Rogers wasted the legislature's time and resources to attempt to take out Paxton, since the Democrats and Little P Bush could not. Also, isn't Rogers the guy that ran an ad where he called Mike Olcott's fishing boat a yacht? And he went on some wild rant about Olcott? I can't feel bad for the guy because he was petty before he lost and then he lost and cried like a baby. And finally Texas Monthly came to his defense. You know you suck as a Republican when Texas Monthly comes to your defense.
I have talked to people I know who do support school choice. And we know what that means. What it really means is the money follows the kids. If you want to homeschool, you get credit for that or "discount" on your school taxes. We pay so much even if we don't have kids... It's ridiculous that we can't decide where our funds go... Especially when I'm in what's supposed to be a good school district (CCISD) and it's a shit show. Young kids are trying to identify as cats and asking for a litter box... Gender pronouns are being used, among much more including the books they are subjecting these kids to. I would never send my child to a public school.... And private school isn't safe either.
These politicians never give a shit about us mere peasants want. They'll tout that they're doing what we want all day while really doing what they want and what will make them the most money. Our politicians are corrupt as f.
Do you have something against home schooling? You already have requirements for home schooling. It's not a free for all.
If you do have a problem with home schooling, what's your better alternative?
I forgot to add, do you think we need more government intervention? We need less government. It's not the government's job to educate our children and this is why we are where we are today.
Actually it’s the peoples’ right to a free education. Not the government’s right to educate all kids. The government is not the parent. Parents have the right to decide what is best for their own child.
Wherever the state’s money is, the state is there, as well, directing a schools every move. For example, Brandon just signed an executive order that schools must let trans women/girls play on the girl’s teams or lose the “free lunch” funding for the kids that qualify. How’s that for wielding power?
The government will always do whatever it wants. If everyone hasn't figured that out yet, then they're not paying attention.
You made a mistake there when you said the state's money. It's our money. It's always been our money. We continue to let them spend it frivolously... For Ukraine, Israel, everywhere but here. Why do we have to pay to teach illegals, and to feed people who don't want to work? When we work our asses off to barely see any of our money.
Regardless of what the state or federal government does... It's our money.
It'd be real nice if our "elected" politicians did what we wanted... But we don't live in that world. We live in the world that the politicians are sold to the highest bidder... And that's not the everyday American taxpayers. So it doesn't matter what I say or what take I have on my tax dollars...I don't have control and we have too much government. That's evident. There is no transparency. Every "great" school district is probably one of the worst ones. I won't ever let my child step foot in a public school or private school for that matter. I just hope they don't try to strip us of more rights... But who can tell. If they start telling me I have to send my kid to school or vaccinate them, I won't do it. Simple as that.
There are none of these regulations on homeschoolers in Texas. I'll gladly pay my taxes so the government stays far away from my homeschooling children.
It is the government's job in Texas to provide a free public education for Texas children. Its in our constitution. That doesnt mean parents who choose private options have to let them call the shots. That is what "school choice" does. Once a private school has to succumb to public school guidelines, they're no longer a private school.
Schools are where the lions share of damage is done to the culture. You can’t fix anything till you un- knit that sweater. I don’t see funding kids rather than institutions as a problem. Alaska is where my youngsters were back in the day getting homeschooling with government funding. I would have preferred to pick a brick and mortar catholic school but I knew that public school was not a good option.
School choice to me is being able to use my school property tax dollars to send my kids where I want to educate them - whether it be home school, private school, or a public school they are not zoned for. Of course most people will not be able to take advantage unless other monies the public schools get also go with the child. The problem is that Texas or Federal Government wants to dictate the curriculum which would not be acceptable to home or private schools.
Sadly, on this issue I would side with Rogers. Parents who support this fiasco choice will learn how bad a choice in maybe about 10 years when we lose another generation of kids to communist indoctrination. You can't fix stupid folks. Give up and pull your kids from ALL governent schools whether you chose them or not.
1. I'm an atheist and I fear Democrats infinitely more than Christians.
2. I'm for school choice. My wife and I worked on a school choice initiative in the 1980's in California (it failed).
3. They are not public schools. They are government schools. Education is far too important to trust to the government. Education must be liberated from the shackles of government.
School choice is about government access to all kids. Parents already have a “choice”. A choice between public (governmental) or private/homeschool (non-governmental) education for their children.

Did Rogers vote to impeach Paxton? If yes I think that had more to do with the election results. I know it did with Reggie Smith.
Yes. Good point. Rogers voted like a lemming for the Paxton impeachment.
May have

"Incarcerated"? For what? There is absolutely nothing presented so far that would lead to that conclusion.
