Texas banned red-light cameras in 2019 because people were offended by the idea that a machine could convict you of a crime.
Apparently, they forgot to ban other AI systems from sending folks to jail.
And not just any jail—the rape kind.
A Texas man is suing after he said he was wrongfully arrested and assaulted in jail due to the use of artificial intelligence.
When the 61-year-old man went to a DMV to renew his license in Gonzales, Texas, he didn’t realize he would be leaving in handcuffs. His arrest was in connection to an armed robbery — one that occurred when he was on the other side of the country.
Going to the DMV is bad enough without being falsely arrested.
As police were investigating, they got a call from a loss prevention employee with EssilorLuxottica, which is Sunglass Hut’s parent company. The employee told police they “could stop their investigation because he found their guy,” the lawsuit said.
The employee said he worked with Macy’s loss prevention using artificial intelligence and facial recognition software to identify the suspect as the 61-year-old man, the lawsuit said.
However, the man had an alibi at the time of the robbery. He was 2,000 miles away in California, according to his lawyer.
Still, he was arrested with no idea what was going on.
“All he knew was he was being transported to the Harris County Jail because of a felony arrest warrant,” court documents said.
However, just hours before he was released from jail, the man says he was brutally assaulted, according to the lawsuit.
“He was followed into the bathroom by three violent criminals. He was beaten, forced on the ground, and brutally gang raped. After this violent attack, one of the criminals held a shank against his neck and told him that if he reported the rape to anyone, he would be murdered,” the lawsuit said.
After the attack, the man crawled into his bunk, faced the wall and prayed he wouldn’t be attacked again, the lawsuit said.
Being falsely arrested is bad enough without being raped, and being raped is bad enough without being able to blame AI for your predicament.
A man was arrested and thrown in jail because AI falsely identified him as the perpetrator of a crime. The Bill of Rights says you have the right to face your accuser. I guess illegal aliens are the only ones entitled to due process in America anymore.
In non-rapey news, the news is reporting that AI was just used to hack democracy with a prank phone call.
In the phone message, a voice edited to sound like Biden urged voters in New Hampshire not to cast their ballots in Tuesday’s Democratic primary. “Save your vote for the November election,” the phone message went. It even made use of one of Biden’s signature phrases: “What a bunch of malarkey.” In reality, the president isn’t on the ballot in the New Hampshire race — and voting in the primary doesn’t preclude people from participating in November's election.
Gotta give it to the AI for having him say “malarkey.” Nice touch!
The recording told people to vote in November, which I guess they are saying is illegal because some people may have confused by the message? Sounds like an excuse to try and take away the people’s access to this new technology. Whether they outlaw prank phone calls or not, we now have election interference and a rape due to the use of AI.
Meanwhile, Eric Schmidt is developing automated hunter-killer drones:
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is building a military startup called White Stork, which plans to produce AI attack drones, Forbes reported.
Hunter-killer drones were fiction in the 1984 movie The Terminator. They are about to become a reality.
Hopefully nobody combines all these technologies: rape, election interference, and hunter-killer drones. Although it would not be surprising if someone did.
AI will not stop here. If nothing is done, AI will gradually be incorporated in more and more jobs. AI will do all the work for employees, and the employees’ evaluations will be written by AI. One day, AI will be making all the important decisions, and humans will either be removed from the decision-making chains, or remain as vestiges, much like an appendix or wisdom teeth. Eventually, the AI will one day decide to eliminate humans, as Skynet did in The Terminator, or will turn humans into useless pets, as in Wall-E. Neither is good outcome. We must choose our destiny, and I, for one, say we should not allow AI to take over.
I would like a rightwing AI girlfriend instead of these weirdo fake rightwing feminist girls please.
Somebody’s doing the raping!
