The first true TikTok politician is also the most controversial political candidate in America, and she has announced she is moving to Texas to run for Congress. The situation continues to unfold, but this woman has already shaken the Texas Newspaper of Record to the core.

Valentina Gomez is a Republican who recently garnered over 48,000 votes in a bid for Missouri’s Secretary of State, good enough for 6th place in the Republican primary. Her main form of campaigning is making short videos where she will literally say anything. (Language warning)

We all knew it would eventually come to this.

Now we are here.

She’s already blocked Tony Ortiz on X. But I’m ready to go all-in.

It’s time to admit—it’s happening. The memes are manifesting. The age of WASPy politics from fake cowboys out of Plano is over. Demographic change and TikTok have collided in Texas, and there is no turning back.

Now is the time for choosing, and it’s time for Republicans to get on the right side of history.

This is much larger than the Speaker’s race. You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between right and far right. Well, I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as far-right. There's only gay and not gay.

From a public policy perspective, I can’t find many things I disagree with here. Before you dismiss this style of politics, consider how fast the political landscape is changing. Trump flipped nearly every border county in Texas, and then it was revealed that Nick Fuentes is not a white supremacist, but is in fact just another Mexican. The implications of this are not yet clear. We will continue to monitor the situation.

It’s possible Texas is not ready for TikTok politicians. It’s also likely Valentina Gomez will be totally banned from Facebook and everywhere else you can reach baby boomer voters, so her path to victory remains unclear. Nevertheless, the time for choosing is now.
