Travis County DA Facing Calls for Resignation. Was Previously Slapped on Butt
Travis County DA Jose Garza is facing calls for resignation after allegedly withholding information in a case against a police officer facing charges from the 2020 George Floyd riots.
Austin Police Officer Chance Bretches accused Travis County DA Jose Garza of hiding evidence that may have exonerated him.
Bretches was charged in 2022 for allegedly using excessive force on a demonstrator, injuring them with department-issued “less-lethal” beanbag rounds later found to be defective.
At the time, Garza allegedly held several meetings with Austin officials about holding the city responsible for injuring Black Lives Matter protestors, rather than individual police officers, Bretches’ attorney, Doug O’Connell, revealed in a March 16 court filing.
But the notoriously soft-on-crime DA – whose campaign was backed by liberal megadonor Soros – allegedly “miscalculated the statute of limitations” to charge the city, according to court records
In a video previously posted on X last year, notorious defense attorney, Adam Reposa, had run up behind Garza and seemingly smacked him in the butt:
