Montgomery GOP Chair Sues Opponents Over Hurt Feelings

It is common knowledge the Texas GOP needs reform; innumerable County-level parties are in disarray, complete with screwjob artist vs. grassroots activist civil wars. Sadly, whether it involves a Chair being too lobotomized to hold a meeting, keeping Precinct Chairs in the dark, or money vanishing, there is no accountability from the Texas GOP due to a hyper-decentralized command chain, creating 254 separate domains just doing whatever.

Perhaps the most noxious example would be the Montgomery County GOP (MCGOP), located in the northern Houston metroplex.

Much disliked MCGOP Chair Bryan Christ (yes, that is his surname) filed a lawsuit against his own party, Chair election opponent, SREC member Gwen Withrow, and Precinct Chairs because they do not like him. I mean, would you consider him competent after he held unauthorized “official” meetings in a bar?

Anyway, let us fast-forward to the present.

After Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi called the meeting of the Montgomery County District Executive Committee for the location where the party majority was conducting their December 5 County Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, County Chairman Bryan Christ immediately filed a lawsuit against his political opponent and 17 other Precinct Chairs in an effort to prevent those members from voting in the District Executive Committee meeting.

Apparently, none of Mr. Christ’s actions were by bylaws. Similar to other chaos-riddled county GOPs, Christ allegedly sent emails exclusively to his confidants and allies, segregating critics.

Prior to the CEC meeting, Chairman Christ also violated Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Rule 8(f) by calling a duplicate meeting on the same date and at the same time for his minority faction of the party. This is a tactic Chairman Christ has used to divide the party and disrupt business since his reelection in 2022.

State Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi did not recognize Chairman Christ’s improperly called meeting and instead called the District Executive Committee Meeting to be held directly following the party majority’s properly scheduled and noticed meeting at the KC Events Center, indicating that Chairman Christ’s dual meeting was improper and fallacious.

Chairman Christ had an opportunity to show leadership in this situation and attend and chair the properly called meeting, which the State Party recognized. Instead, Chairman Christ and his minority faction chose not to attend the properly called CEC meeting or the District Executive Committee Meeting as called by State Party Chairman Rinaldi. Chairman Christ sent two representatives to the meeting and a process server, disrupting the meeting and inflicting anxiety and distress on members of the CEC and Republican Party visitors.

Montgomery County GOP sues Disgraced Chairman

While I could rant longer about how ridiculous this situation has gotten, there is nothing I can say not already said. With the amount of establishment-leaning incompetents serving as County Chairs, and the resulting infighting, is it shocking Austin’s suits ignore the grassroots?

Is it really surprising many dislike Chair Christ? I mean, we are talking about a guy who allegedly locked everyone out of the MCGOP’s headquarters, collaborated with Democrats, catered to “yes men,” and held official meetings in bars.

As we stated only x+y×z times for years, centralization is the Texas GOP’s sole hope to avoid hyper-localized fiefdoms, and the accompanying political anarchy; in fact, it is arguably inevitable. How many “Montgomerys” must happen before a “New Machine” is born?
