It’s runoff election day and there are several very important races Texans will be watching.
Rep. Phelan VS Covey
This is the #1 race that Texans are following. A true test of the Texas moderate-right vs the “grassroots”-right.
March 5th election results showed David Covey beating Rep. Phelan by about 1,000 votes. Will today’s results be similar? Will Covey pull it off?
Rumors we heard from multiple people this weekend indicated that Dade Phelan was going to pull it off. This was based on turnout in specific counties that favored Dade Phelan. These are just rumors, of course, but huge if true.
Brent Hagenbuch VS Jace Yarbrough
Minutes after Abraham George was elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, he was formally approached about upholding a campaign promise he made a month earlier regarding Brent Hagenbuch’s claim of living in a broom closet in order to establish residency to run for the Texas Senate, as required by the Texas Constitution.
That’s right—Abraham George was asked about his campaign promise to stop Brent Hagenbuch’s attempt to swoop in and participate in the Senate District 30 primary.
George replied, “It is a simple issue.” But is it?
Friday morning, whispers started to circulate the San Antonio Convention Center, with many people saying “big, if true” about the promise from then-candidate George.
Later that day, Jace Yarbrough, the candidate opposing Brent Hagenbuch’s attempted takeover SD30, dropped the bombshell that he was asking George to follow through on his promise by utilizing the authority laid out in Texas Election Code § 145.003, and declare Brent Hagenbuch ineligible when the polls close today!
So Abraham George, as Party Chairman, can basically declare Yarbrough the winner as soon as the polls close, according to current law.
Here is what Yarbrough said:
They delivered all 208 pages during convention!
Hagenbuch has a list of endorsements a mile long. Presumably, he is leveraging his business assets to acquire some of these, such as the Trump endorsement. I don’t think Donald Trump heard about Hagenbuch’s parking lot meetings as Denton County Chairman and decided to jump in this race. It seems much more likely that he just bought that endorsement.
I’m really vibing with the Abraham George=Unity message. I think a lot of people will forgive and forget all the people who tried to endorse Brent Hagenbuch all the way into the Texas Senate if George declares Yarbrough the winner when the polls close at 7pm today, upholding the principles George espoused during the campaign.
Seems like a simple issue.
Rep. Klick VS Lowe
Representative Klick faces off against David Lowe for the second time in four years.
In the March 5th election Rep. Klick beat David Lowe by only around 300 votes but failed to secure the amount needed to avoid a runoff.
Klick has received endorsements and money from both TLR, Governor Greg Abbott, Dade Phelan, and many other Texas House Representatives.
Rep Holland VS Katrina Pierson
Another closely watched race as Rep. Holland faces off against Pierson.
Pierson is endorsed by several high profile figures including Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Recent reporting shows she’s received additional money from Abbott.
Rep Frazier VS Keresa Richardson
A highly watched race in Collin County: Rep. Frazier faces off against Keresa Richardson for HD61.
In the March 5th election, Richardson beat Frazier by a bit over 1,000 votes but failed to secure the amount needed to avoid a runoff.
Andy Hopper VS Lynn Stucky
Another race to watch, Right-wing firebrand Andy Hopper is in a runoff and rematch against current Texas Representative (HD64) Lynn Stucky.
On March 5th, Hopper got around 900 more votes than Stucky, securing a plurality (though not a majority) of the vote.
As implied earlier, this isn’t Hopper’s first match-up against Stucky; back in 2022, he initially lost by merely 88 votes. Now with Hopper receiving high-profile endorsements, including Senator Ted Cruz, skyrocketing turnout in Wise County, and the re-emergence of a Stucky-related scandal, there’s no telling what’ll happen this Election Day.
Congressman Tony Gonzales VS Brandon Herrera
For US House Texas Disctrict 23, incumbent Gonzales faces off against well-known online figure Brandon Herrera.
Gonzales secured over 10,000 more votes than Herrera in a five-way race in March but failed to reach a threshold of over 50 points.
Good ‘ol Honest Abe. Will he be honest?
I hope all the challenger candidates are planning on demanding an audit of their election results if they lose since we are using the electronic voting machines that help 'select' The Chosen.
