“School Choice for Poor Minorities” Narrative Returns
Haven’t seen you since Floyd was alive.
While procrastinating finishing my review of the incredibly dull Texas Democratic Senate debate, I was scrolling X and reading Black History Month jokes. While reading comments from a video showing a crackhead doing a back flip off a house, I saw a featured post from Luke Macias. The post shows two Republican candidates at a forum for House District 33 Republican Primary—incumbent Justin Holland and challenger Katrina Pierson.
The clip shows the candidates discussing the concept known as “school choice.”
(note: I originally saw this post labeled as a paid ad, however I did not take a screen shot and X does not have a feature to view which ads an account is running, so I can not say it is a paid ad for certain, however, I did first see this video while watching videos of crack heads)
Holland says “schools are not woke.” This is very similar to saying “Mexicans are not rapists.” It may be true in a very technical sense, but when you look at describing these problems and then actually solving them, you must first admit that someone is doing the raping and someone is teaching the kids to be woke.
Pierson then snaps back at Holland’s comments with a few “school choice” talking points from the pre-Covid era.
“Now, unless we are saying that the people in Rockwall just don’t care about the disadvantaged people across the state—I don’t believe that. I will support…. school choice.”
The “school choice” proponents necessarily changed their tune about the purpose of school choice following the Summer of Floyd in 2020. They stopped talking about school choice in this way because people were exhausted with critical theory and these fake narratives. In 2024, people now understand that “disadvantaged person” is a legal codeword that means a non-white person.
Are you really going to try and guilt Republicans into voting for you by accusing them of not caring enough about black people?
What in the blue hell kind of strategy is this?
Katrina Pierson is a strong leader who will stand tall for common sense and decency in the Texas House. Ms. Pierson will not cater to the teacher's union; she will fight for sensible education and school choice.
Republicans in Texas are in real trouble if these 2 candidates are a reflection of the the best that could be mustered up to run. It is very demoralizing .
