State Rep Seeks Felony Charges Against Texas GOP Chairman
Burrows supporter wants opponent arrested.
In a move that many people are saying is “pure unhinged insanity,” State Representative Cody Harris (R-HD8) filed a criminal complaint against Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Abraham George seeking George’s imprisonment over allegations that George sent a text message to Harris that Harris predicts will lead to a series of events that have not yet occurred, but if they do occur, they will “economically benefit” a theoretical person who does not exist at this time. He further states the enrichment of this hypothetical person would theoretically mean Harris is actually losing money (?!?) and Harris says this may lead to him not getting as many people to vote for him.
All this and more will be a violation of the law—in the future—according to Cody Harris—in a complaint he swore under threat of civil penalty was not frivolous.
Yes, this is Texas Politics.
You can read the very serious allegations below.
For added reader context: the charge by Harris seems to be that George’s action of sending this text message created a rip in the space time continuum, and George inserted crime into the wormhole it formed, therefore sending some sort of criminal conspiracy into the future. Harris wants George arrested now, so that when the crime exits the time portal, justice has already been served.
This is the latest escalation in the House Speaker’s race between Republicans Dustin Burrows and David Cook.
Republicans backing Burrows have faced intense backlash from voters in their districts. The explanation angry voters are getting from Reps backing Burrows we’re told is essentially “trust me bro.”
After working for years within the process and bylaws of the Republican Party, Party Members finally thought they had created a process that would prevent the selection of bad House Speakers. But the Empire is striking back.
Messages from George to Rep. Harris here:
The complaint also alleges the RPT amended Rule 44 to allow Chairman George to refuse to accept the ballot application for two years following a censure resolution against a candidate. This means George might have the power to block Harris or other Cook-opponents from appearing on the Republican primary ballot.
As a new RPT Chairman, George passed on an opportunity to remove a candidate from the ballot when it was appropriate. We are still waiting for an explanation on that one.
George’s statement on Cody Harris bringing this weird complaint was good, as usual:
What was once considered the ultimate measure of a politician's conservative credentials—whether they voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton—has now conveniently been ignored. This is because both Cook and Burrows voted to impeach AG Paxton.
The Republican Party this year has suddenly decided to care about the House Republican Caucus process. As Candy Noble, who is backing David Cook for Speaker, noted in her recent email, two years ago three Representatives voted AGAINST the House Republican Caucus nominee. There wasn’t any threats to primary these representatives and the grassroots definitely wasn’t calling for attacks. But for some reason, this session, everyone says the House Republican Caucus must be followed. It’s hypocritical, but hey, welcome to politics.
Cody Harris got a single text message from an Indian, and he wants him arrested. Meanwhile, myself and everyone I know gets 10 spam calls every single day from Indians, at the worst possible time. Why do politicians only think about themselves?
Last session when 3 reps voted against Phelan, the RPT and local GOPs could censure, but the censure did not have the TEETH the RPT delegates voted for last May. Could that be the difference? Censure might actually carry a penalty. Everyone knows the biggest fear a politician has is NOT GETTING RE-ELECTED. They will come out swinging on that harder than they will on the border, property taxes, or any other scam they are trying to convince us they are "solving"
This is TEXAS politics--The elections are all weighted in favor of the incumbent to start with--I want to see the GOP actually do something about reigning in those creatures that put that r behind their name but almost always vote Blue! The party continues to support those incumbents even tho they have proven to be democrats by their votes--The party has allowed the county chairs to embed these democrats into the party that is slowly one step at a time turning into a blue state---we have already lost all the big cities all because this gop keeps saying---OH but the democrats are our friends--just hold your nose and vote for that creature--we all need to just roll up our sleeves and get back to work--we just didn't have the votes---If the GOP doesn't start standing up to the county chairs doesn't start working with the average voter---In my county the chair refuses to allow anyone he doesn't deem republican enough to even attend the meetings can't be a delegate--can sometimes be an alternate but he but won't seat alternates..IMO this is voter interference and the gop does nothing to change this behavior. Look at how many county chairs have refused to follow the new caucus rules with no consequences--how many refused to support the party's candidate for President---Mine refused to even have signs for Trump or any other candidate that isn't part of the pay for play since those $$ appear to go in his pocket
