After their website crashed last week, the Tarrant Appraisal District announced Monday they were the victims of a ransomware hack attack, stating hackers were demanding $700,000!
The Board Chairman said it was the work of evil.
Pure evil indeed, Vince.
These appraisal districts deserve to be hacked and worse, quite frankly, for their abuse of homeowners over the years. These hackers are like Batman and Robin going after these crooked tax entities.
But seriously, they claim to know how much your house is worth based on Californians bidding 100k over asking price, but they can’t figure out how not to click the link sent by a hacker?
The District recently admitted their computer system was also compromised back in 2022.
An attorney for TAD revealing Thursday that a forensic analysis showed two different pieces of malicious software were placed on the agency's computer system in early 2022.Â
However, both pieces of malware failed when they launched, and Matthew Tepper said no evidence was found that any personal data of property owners was accessed. There's no guarantee it was not accessed though and a continued scan of the dark web for details may be necessary.
Board members maintained they were never informed of the full extent of the vulnerabilities, until the last few months when an internal investigation was launched.
Local government entities are falling for these scam emails constantly. Maybe we should force them to go back to 100% paper.
This is so stupid and pointless. Don't these people read the news? We have access to completely unhackable computers in our elections department. They are always telling us about these super safe computers, and how they are even more invulnerable than our Pentagon computers.
All these dimwits need to do is borrow the electronic voting machines, and do their business on those. Then, they will never be hacked. China and Iran, weep. You have been thwarted!
Also, I've heard that our Elections Administrator is an electronics expert. He is always telling us about these machines, and how impenetrable they are., and how he knows all about it, and how stupid anyone is who questions anything. So, he can be Tarrant county's electronics advice expert.
Our EA is obviously the expert. He doesn't even charge that much.
For that matter, maybe the Pentagon should hire him. And borrow the electronic voting machines that we don't lend to Tarrant county, because then our Pentagon would be unhackable too.
You know, don't be an unhackability denier!
Maybe it was a DEI incident.
