Valerie Roehrs Announces Candidacy For Denton County Commissioner
Roehrs is challenging incumbent Dianne Edmondson for the position.
Businesswoman Valerie Roehrs held a launch party last week to announce her candidacy against controversial Denton County Commissioner Dianne Edmondson.
During her tenure, Edmondson has come under fire for disputable hiring choices, and taking credit for legislation she had zero part in (and according to a witness, refusing to credit those involved).
Denton County officials this week will reconsider whether to hire Todd Gallaher, the Republican political consultant who comes with a public history of allegedly orchestrating a political scheme.
Incoming Precinct 4 County Commissioner Dianne Edmondson wants to pay Gallaher $74,985 per year to be her chief administrator. Outgoing Denton County Judge Mary Horn, a longtime Republican, rejected Gallaher in open court Dec. 18. As a result, the court denied approving the hire in a 2-2 vote.
The event exceeded the reserved room size and overflowed into the outer area.
Roehrs detailed her upbringing in Farmer’s Branch and her family ranch in Bosque County. After reflecting on her past working with Farmer’s Branch, and the Las Colinas business community, Roehrs explained her decision to run for Denton County Commissioner.
Roehrs’ reasons for running included maintaining the county’s roads and bridges, bringing business experience to the role, supporting fiscal responsibility, and promoting “smart growth.” She also highlighted her experience as a rancher, facing challenges from both developers and overreaching government.
Many notable individuals were in attendance for the event including chairs of Republican parties, GOP group leaders, political activists, politicians, and business leaders.
