After much toiling, and backlash toward the powers that be, Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson acknowledged that non-citizens shouldn’t be allowed to vote. She reversed a previous decision declaring that foreigners with a “limited” drivers license could vote if they had a poker face and said “ballot please.”
Now, Nelson stated that unless those holding a “limited” drivers license could produce a naturalization card (proving they’re a citizen), they can’t vote in Texas elections.
We reported election concerns on Tuesday signaling problems ahead.
Now less than a week later, the easiest loophole for letting non-citizens vote is finally closed. Election judges officially have no excuse to let non-citizens vote on Texas issues.
Well, it’s not gonna stop the Dem election judges from letting them vote. But proof you can hold ppls feet to the fire and enact some change.
Very happy to hear that this issue has been addressed and is settled. As an election judge, I was very concerned that I would have to make a decision that would go against Jane’s original edict. Thankfully, I can now honor the law and her rules.
