A Campaign Years In The Making
After rumors about this have circulated for at least two years, it became official yesterday that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was running to unseat Sen. John Cornyn. While suspicions were confirmed earlier, Paxton officially announced during an interview with mighty fine news anchor Laura Ingraham.
If you’ve paid attention to Texas political drama for a while, you likely expected this moment. Years ago, when Paxton was undergoing a failed impeachment trial, a poll surfaced showing him utterly crushing Cornyn. Due to its random timing, some speculated this was “testing the waters” for a Paxton senate candidacy.
Shocking Poll Shows Ken Paxton Beating John Cornyn
A CWS Poll just came out about the Ken Paxton impeachment. It was commissioned by Defend Texas Liberty PAC. We at Current Revolt had a look at the poll, and it appears to indicate support for Ken Paxton. According to the results, 52% agree the Texas Senate should dismiss the charges.
Sen. Cornyn was inarguably bound to have an opponent come election season, considering his success in angering some in the GOP with repeated scams, allegedly in a bid to be Sen. Mitch McConnell’s heir. For instance, Cornyn backed Biden’s appointments, including that of a BLM activist to lead the Air Force. He even proudly hired NeverTrumpers for consultants.
Perhaps Cornyn’s most notorious blunder was backing “red flag laws” and related gun grabbing schemes, which got him booed off stage at the 2022 Texas GOP Convention (and resulted in this viral clip.)
Granted, Cornyn has attempted to repair his image in recent months, even doing an awkward interview with Michael Quinn Sullivan of “Texas Scorecard,” where Sullivan threw him nothing but softball questions.
