President Trump survived numerous Democrat assassination attempts en route to his third election victory. Now that MAGA is underway, it’s time Texas lawmakers delivered on their promises in a big way.
There will be about 10,000 bills filed for the 140-day legislative session. Literally ain’t nobody got time for that. Luckily, Current Revolt is monitoring the situation for you. Expect to see updates on legislation throughout the session.
Very Bueno
One glance at the bills filed today and it’s clear the 89th Session is going to be 🔥.
Quality Education
Anti-smut book activist Jared Patterson (R-HD106) is still on a righteous crusade to get libraries to focus on classical education and the best books rather than have libraries be an extension of Reddit. Today, he filed HB183 to establish a process for reviewing and regulating library materials in Texas public school libraries. This comes after Current Revolt published the weirdest headline ever related to library books.
Patterson also filed HB267, which would close the Predator Teacher Loophole, an exemption in the law that allows teachers to provide otherwise illegal sexual materials to children.
The first Voucher bill, HB212, came not from Corey DeAngelis, but Briscoe Cain (R-HD132). We will be monitoring the school choice, aka school vouchers, and all related schemes as they develop.
The Gimmigrant Invasion
Terri Leo-Wilson (R-HD23) was the first member to file a bill this morning. Her bill was HB160, which would remove the eligibility of in-state tuition rates for undocumented immigrants. Can you believe they are getting in-state tuition above most Americans!??
HB256 by Terri Leo-Wilson (R-HD23) mandates DNA tests of every self-described “refugee” that shows up at our border. (They will likely need a lot of rape kits as well.)
Mano DeAyala (R-HD133) filed HB298, which mandates a person’s citizenship status be listed on a driver’s license or personal ID card. (Editor’s note: BASED?)
HB354 by Briscoe Cain (R-HD128) creates Border Police, which would operate independently to address border-related concerns such as the cartels running the largest human smuggling operation in human history in our state.
HB371 by Ben Bumgarner (R-HD63) would limit public school admission and educational funding eligibility for undocumented students. (Day 1 please?)
More Winning
Legendary Texas Rep. Carl Tepper (R-HD84) may have dropped the most epic bill of all today. HB167 restricts Texas governmental entities from implementing or enforcing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. It also repeals government discrimination against businesses owned by white males. (Yes Texas has been doing that)
HB170 by Ryan Guillen (R-HD31) states that those who use or threaten to use force or deadly force, if deemed justified under Chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code, are immune from civil liability. In other words, if the state says you legally defended yourself, (i.e., Stand Your Ground, Castle Doctrine, etc.), then you can’t be sued by the injured or estate of the deceased. A common sense measure.
LGBTP’s In Your Face Everywhere
HB229 by Ellen Troxclair (R-HD19) streamlines government reporting by getting rid of the infinite number of genders that Democrats plan on rolling out. This cuts out potential government waste. (Isn’t it a strange coincidence how every new gender they discover is a Democrat constituent group?)
Shelby Slawson (R-HD59) introduced HB239, which is designed to make sure men and women use separate bathrooms, locker rooms, etc. Our condolences to all the guys who were thinking that getting naked in front of a bunch of chicks in the women’s locker room was happening. For many Texas men that’s a bucket-list item shelved until the next Democrat is elected.
HB344 by Carl Tepper (R-HD84) restricts schools from teaching your kids that they are a made-up gender, or offering guidance on homosexual activities. In practice this means that schools cannot provide guidance or “activities”(???) regarding sexual orientation to pre-kindergartners. If you think this law is not needed, then sadly you haven’t met the Texas Democrats.
Nate Schatzline (R-HD93) filed HB1075, allowing minors to sue drag queens who do sexual performances in their presence, for up to 10 years after the event. Somehow the parents are off the hook it seems..
Janie Lopez (R-HD37) filed HB1123, which requires genetic testing of child athletes for competition in K- 12 sports to ensure they aren’t transgender. We’re going to be testing everyone soon with all the upcoming deportations, so this will likely be done at cost, saving taxpayers money.
Dealing with Climate Doomsday Cultists
HB206 by Tom Craddick (R-HD82) cuts out red tape in oil and gas pipeline construction. Drill baby drill!
Brian Harrison (R-HD10) filed HB988, which is a passive aggressive swipe at DIE, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, and possibly an array of climate change schemes. It’s hard to say, as the bill is very generic.
Texas Cities and Infinite Debt
HB325 by Briscoe Cain (R-HD128) introduces a limit on municipalities’ and counties’ annual expenditures in Texas. Might the days of reckless spending by blue cities come to an end?
Having Real Elections
Mike Schofield (R-HD132) introduced HB209, which seeks to enhance elections by ensuring that federal elections are separate from state and local elections in Texas—this ensures a more informed electorate will turnout (better results in gov) and many people say the Democrats (who love to vote) will love voting more frequently with shorter lines.
HB219 by Brooks Landgraf mandates that a person register to vote by providing a birth certificate or Real ID. This doesn’t go far enough, but it’s a start. It’s certainly better than the policy of 2 months ago, which was walked back by the Secretary of State after CR reporting on how non-citizen ID’s could be used to vote!
Briscoe Cain (R-HD128) introduced HB274, which would annex the City of Austin, turn it into a district (like Washington DC), and regulate its laws under the State Legislature, removing city representation. (Ok, this is actually the best bill)
HB342 by Richard Hayes (R-HD57) eliminates waste fraud and abuse in our elections.
Saving Marriages and Families
Cody Vasut (R-HD25) filed HB732, banning women from leaving their husbands because they feel like it. Also works for husbands leaving too, but the data shows that is rare. Vasut also filed HB931 to establish a legal framework for “covenant marriages,” adding counseling requirements for both entry into marriage and divorce. I can’t think of a better way to start off your marriage than by getting the Premium Marriage Package from the State as a nod that this is a real marriage.
Rinaldi’s Law
Filed by Ryan Guillen (R-HD31) and known as “Rinaldi’s Law” this bill amends the Election Code to charge those who obtain private ballot information connecting ballot selections with a felony. This comes after Current Revolt published Rinaldi’s ballot showing he voted for Ron Desantis after claiming he voted for Donald Trump.
Look for more Bill Reviews throughout the session (unless Trump puts me in his cabinet).
