If you’ve paid attention to TXLege news lately, you know there’s much talk of censuring Republicans who ignore their constituents and back Democrats too much. Basically, getting “censured” means you’re excommunicated from the Texas GOP. So far, the only major officials to receive this anathema are Congressman Tony Gonzales, former House Speaker Joe Straus, and former House Speaker Dade Phelan.
The overall goal of many Rightist activists was to bar censured candidates from GOP primary ballot access. Despite the overlong meetings over several days, the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) still argues over what constitutes censurable offenses. With the paltry amount of state officials getting censured, much of this has been saber-rattling.
However, there’s one possible censure that stood out.
