YOLO: Dallas Trustee Electioneering with School Email
Endorsing candidates using ISD email? Why not!?
A member of Dallas ISD’s Board of Trustees potentially engaged in unlawful electioneering just moments after he signed his Ethics Agreement, according to email screenshots obtained by Current Revolt.
The Texas Education Code specifically prohibits members a school district’s board of trustees from using state resources for elections.
Sec. 11.169. ELECTIONEERING PROHIBITED. Notwithstanding any other law, the board of trustees of an independent school district may not use state or local funds or other resources of the district to electioneer for or against any candidate, measure, or political party.
In an email sent August 8th and addressed to precinct chairs, Dallas ISD Trustee Maxie Johnson flat-out endorsed Dr. DeAndrea Fleming for State Board of Education using his title and Dallas ISD email.
On the same day, a few minutes before or after the above email was sent, Johnson signed an ethics agreement promising to abide by the Board Members Ethics policy.
Homeboy really stepped in it.
Johnson was once asked how to stop gun violence in schools, and his answer was to stop Greg Abbott’s voucher scam and some other gibberish.
Will Johnson face scrutiny for what looks like electioneering?
We’ve covered previous instances of electioneering in several ISDs:
In many cases, Attorney General Ken Paxton sends out a letter warning the ISD against electioneering.
“He needs to fund public education… He’s gonna bankrupt public education…”
Dude has no clue as to who pays for what. Sorry about his kid, was it school (gun violence) or was it elsewhere?
Paxton needs to hear from all of us to prosecute these criminal acts. NO EXCEPTIONS!
